My fan also screeches and wails on start-up. It used to finally kick in, but no longer. I deduce it as a 'Dry Bearing' problem but need schematic to access and lubricate/replace.

the downdraft is not working on the JED8430 jennair downdraft model

My fan switch control knob will not come up when pressed so I can turn the fan on. I have a JENNAIR JED 8430 Black. I wish I knew how to take the old fan switch out so I can replace it with a new one I purchased. When I remove the 2 screws from the fan switch assembly, it will not lift up and out. I don't want to snap something off in there. Any idease on to remove the switch?

I used my grill for the first time, & the downdraft didn't work we'll, the house filled with smoke & eventually the downdraft shut off and I had to finish cooking in a pan. My Jenn-Air is...

The downdraft is electric so there must be something malfunctioning with it. It is a high volume downdraft fan that is to be vented to the outside. Could it be that something has clogged the vent hole up, not allowing the fan to evacuate the smoke?

While I am not a big fan of Jenn-Air, their fans are usually high quality if they are installed correctly, with the proper vent lines.

My new home already has a hood vent for the range. I have a gas Jenn air downdraft range. I prefer to use the hood vent as the downdraft is not very efficient. Do I have to connect the blower on my range...

The poupose of either is to eliminate any smoke created by the range or grille and move as much of the cooking odors to the outside. I wouldn't use both at the same time, but if the hood is vented to the outside, it would be just fine to use only the hood. Aregular cleaning will be necesssary. The downdraft has limits as to the distance it will efficiently exhaust air. Flex hose should not be used. And excessive bends or vent length, cuts into the efficiency.

Installing JED8230ADB Cooktop Grill with down-draft exhaust

I can't imagine directing the downdraft vent back up to a traditional hood type system. Why bother, just don't use the downdraft or get a cooktop without a down draft and save money.

In granite, yes for any cooktop as long as someone can cut the correct size hole. Cooktops must be installed so the top is just about flush with the countertop. They all come with a template for cutting the right size hole in the countertop.

Downdraft exhaust not working properly

I pumped out water that somehow collected in the exterior exhaust pipe. Even though there is a hood on the outdoor pvc pipe, it still filled with water; not sure how but after extracting the water, the fan works great now.

Bearings are worn. You should be able to replace with a standard utility fan. You can find them at your local big box hardware store or order online here.
