I fear you have been incorrectly advised on memory; your unit reportedly supports only 192 MB and then of a specific type.

Please look at the information on this page:

http://www.upgradecomputermemory.com/ram.cfm/memory/P/Panasonic/CF-Series/CF-G1/3M-Disposable-Anti-Static-Wrist-Stra.html

Especially when you are not very familiar with the different types of memory, thorough research is mandatory - I speak from (bad) experience!

I want to restore my panasonic cf 74 to original factory

The best way to "Factory" Restore your Panasonic
Toughbook CF74 is to use the original recovery
disk(s) that came with the unit when new.

If you can't find them, you can order them from
    Panasonic at the following website:

    http://business.panasonic.com/support-computerstablets-dvdrequests

    Here is what they say:
Recovery DVDs are available by mail for select Toughbook® products. Windows® XP back up service is only available to customers who purchased Panasonic computers with XP downgrade rights. Windows XP Backup Image and Windows 7 Recovery DVDs restore a PC to its original factory image. The standard Panasonic factory image includes the Windows operating system and all drivers/applications originally installed by Panasonic.

    Good Luck!

Installed Ram, now wont boot with the new ram? Put old Ram, starts fine?

The new RAM is either faulty or incompatible (not the correct type).
For larger RAM use the same make and type as the old RAM

Ok so i bought 2g ram upgraid ddr2 for my cf 51...was told this is what it takes....does not fit...do i shave it down....whats the issue

No you cannot shave memory to make it fit and work. It is designed for either SDRAM or DDR the slots are what identify the fit and type of Ram used on your computer. So you may not be using DDR2 ram it may be something else you need to get the specific specs for your lap top and exchange or purchase the proper ram replacement never deface or sand down ram and try to install into any computer. I hope this assisted you with all of your questions. John

The panasonicCF-73 tough book I am using has 256 RAM, can I increase this to 1gb or 2gb? Thank you,

    According to: http://www.upgradecomputermemory.com/ram.cfm/memory/P/Panasonic/Toughbook-Series/Toughbook-73-CF-73

your CF-73 has "integrated" 256MB of memory, and supports a maximum addition of 1GB of RAM.
The web-site says about $33, which _definitely_ is a good investment to speed-up your computer.

Panasonic toughbook cf-48 two batteries went bad within a day

Place battery in freezer for 2 hours / remove and recharge, might make it last longer. (Removes any "memory" in them)

Might be worth checking the charger to ensure its working OK. Just becuase the light is on doesn't always mean its working.
