You need to first find out the best method of running your gas line to the location of your dryer..Make sure you also run a vent hose to dryer to the outside of your house, make sure you have 120 volt outlet, i would also run a 220 line as well just in case you need 220...

If you are using LP gas make sure the dryer is set to LP on the regulator. If a natural gas dryer is run on LP you will get way to much flame.

I smelled something burning and found the dryer's outlet box on the wall melting. Why did this happen? /

Probably due to a loose or corroded connection at the receptacle/outlet box. Most likely a loose connection, sometimes they will also corode if the dryer is located in the basement due to humidity and mosture.

Also double check to make sure your dryer venting is free from obstructions that could also cause your dryer to overheat.

You should have both the outlet & the dryer cord replaced.

Dryer works but doesn't get clothes dry. They're

Sounds like inadequate air flow through the machine. In order for the any dryer to function air is forced through the machine and outside. If the discharge is blocked or obstructed in any way the moist air will not be removed, and the clothes will not dry.

Disconnect dryer from wall and clean the wall outlet and and dryer discharge pipe.

Also, if you are trying to force air higher than 6 feet up the wall from a basement you will need a booster fan on the piping.

Older Ge Hotpoint Dryer will tumble but not light the gas to heat

You state it is an older dryer, so I'd suggest replacement. The water may have damaged numerous components, including the motor, which would be costly to replace.

I had water in my basement, now the dryer does nothing. fuses are good.

There is a controller board that is located on the bottom left of the dryer unit. This board is just over $100 as a replacement from FP. In most cases replacing this will fix the problem although I just replaced one on a gas dryer and it powered on but nothing else worked. The power light came on when plugged in but couldn't turn it off or change the setting from no heat dry. Could of been because no gas was attached but that is a question for another day.

This board will get wet and burn out when there is about 5" of water in the basement.
