If you have installed the AT&T software, you should be able to use that application to connect to the Internet. Are you using a USB gateway or do you have a stand-alone gateway?
If you have the USB type, install the software first and then connect the USB gateway, Click on the software app to start the Internet connection. AT&T info will show a tab for GSx and one for Wireless. As long as you have a subscription, I would use the GSx tab, otherwise, select the wireless tab and connect to your gateway or any other wireless router that you have access to. Good Luck.
I think you have answered your own problem, your wireless has possibly been zapped. To test your ethernet adapter on your laptop connect it to a network hub, check the hub and see if you have a link light on the hub and or laptop.. To test your wireless router, connect it to a known working computer with a network card and check the router configuration, using the browser, if you cannot access it then its zapped.
