My Lacie was working fine till I brutally unplugged it from usb port when I about to go home from office. After I go home, I plugged it to my home computer, it cannot be detected any more. Next day I brought it back to office and tried on multiple computers, none of them can detect it even thought all the computers can detect other device plugged in the same usb ports.

Hi,

Please take the Hard disc to a technician for a soldering repair job.

It happens in many cases, that after brutally unplugging the drive the connector connecting the drive to the board of the hard drive gets loose... or the connections break which does not let the hard disc being detected.

A repair job will fix the issue for you for sure.

I have a LaCie Rugged Drive, with multiple interfaces (USB, Firewire 400/800). Firewire interface works fine. When I plug the drive in the USB port, it won't mount (MacBook Pro OS X), and a faint beeping...

the problem is that your lacie drive operates using the NTFS (New Technology File System) under USB which is the standard file system of Windows. Apple mac is not interopable with native NTFS therefore you need to install a read-write NTFS file-system driver on your mac if you wish to use it via the USB connection.

an excellent free mac NTFS driver can be found here-
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/NTFS-3G.shtml

download and install the software then restart your mac.

Hard drive icon wont appear on desktop

Have a look in disk management for the drive.

Start > Run > type 'diskmgmt.msc'

If the drive is there and has a blue bar, try changing the drive letter.

If the drive is there, but has a black bar, you will need to recover your data with a recovery software (option - recuva recovery software) and then repartition the drive.

If the drive isn't there at all, you may need to try another USB port, another cable or even another computer.

If none of these options help, you may have to contact Lacie for your support options (possible replacement).

Computer will not turn off, it just reboots. took it back to dealer and it worked fine at the store but as soon as I plugged it in at home office it didn't turn off

Unplug any external devices: Printer, hard drive, usb drive, network cord or anything that was not plugged in at the shop and see if it starts up. Once you are on a Desktop, plug them in one at a time. If you are using USB devices, try and use the back Ports instead of the front USB ports due to some machines having issues with it on start up with XP and Vista.

If all else fails, press F8 before Windows starts up and boot into safe mode. If it successfully boots into safe mode, you have a corrupt driver and you will need to make sure you have all your drivers up to date.

I brought my LaCie hardrive to my bf's and he put movies on it for me. When i got home i plugged it in and all it does is beep and doesnt appear on my computer. FYI yes we are both using PC (he's a laptop...

He may have "unplugged" it before it was ready to be unplug or moved it when the drive was still spinning down.
or -- he must have handled it roughly or dropped it, even a little drop.
I think you need a new one (bf) ... The hard drive may still work... try every different USB port on your computer. If none work, then take it back and plug it into your ex-bf's computer and see if it works. Take your receipt with you.

Let us know ....... what kind of movies....

Lacie 250GB Hard Disk is not being recognized by PC (Windows XP)

Some PC's cannot deliver enough power to the USB devices to function properly through the USB port.
Does your Lacie hard disk have a power input connector if so conect a power adapter to it before you put it into your USB port.

Another alternative, get a powered USB hub connect it into your computer then connect the Lacie hard drive to the powered USB hub.

Lacie not working

Does your drive make any unusual sounds like any of these: http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php ?
If yes then you got a problem - it's something mechanical with the heads.
If it sounds normal or doesn't spin up at all - try to connect it to another computer and if still no go - remove the internal drive from enclosure and connect directly to PC via SATA port.

Lacie hard drive nonfunctional

I ran into this issue this week with my lacie big disk 500G external. Unit would power on when plugged into a pc blue light would flash and nothing no connection ding from windows.
Blue front light would flash repetedly slight ticking sound from drives but no connection i finally fixed this and gained access to my data by opening up the case and pluging my pc 12v connectors into both drives to power them up but leaving them connected to the lacie internals worked instantly and ive since copyed all my data off my 500 and will just transplant the drives to internal use on my pc. you cannot connect the drives internally and then copy the data due to the fact that they are raid 0 stripped drives so this hybrid setup works if your external case isnt powering up the drive correctly as mine wasnt.

My Lacie 500GB drive shuts my laptop down when i connect it.

similar issue: my notebook hangs instead of restarting. i thought its the usb2.0 of my rather old(3yr) notebook. but i bought a cheap usb box for my old 120G hdd and it plug-n-play like a charm on the same old notebook/same usb port. quite frustrated with this Lacie 500G beast.

so i ended up backing up my notebook using the 1-click backup of Lacie but using my old 120G hdd instead of the new Lacie500G. but then, search as i would through the Lacie documentation, i see no mention of how to restore the data... still looking...
