I think you must be mistaken about your heater being a millivolt heater. They have not mfg these heaters for some time. And they probably would not give you an SF error. If you have an SF error, it is a newer model with a digital board. Millivolts usually have two analog temperature dials on them and no digital readouts. That should be the part. HTH

5 f code after hearing poping noises filter and pump are new

SF (not 5F) = Temperature Sensor or Thermistor
HS = High Limit Sensor
Heaters Set Temperature out of Sync with actual Water Temperature.
Heaters Maximum Water Temperature has been Exceeded.
A few reasons this occurs...
  • Low water flow thru heater, check :
    • Dirty Filter
    • Opened By Pass Valves
    • Plugged pump impeller
    • Dirty/Full baskets at skimmer or pump
    • Anything that may reduce water flow
  • Sensor could actually be doing its job, in a different aspect, Thermostat failure, and water is overheating in spa or pool?
But anyway, your heaters fault code you asked about does not necessarily mean the sensor failed, but is only informing of a problem.

Display shows SF on model H150ED2

SF is the code for Temperature sensor input failure. check wiring that goes to temperature sensor for brakes or cuts, sensor is located on right lower side of heater where water lines go in. you have to remove the 6 screws to take the side panels off above and below the water lines. sensor is visible then.follow wires back to control board and make sure they are securely pluggin in to board and all broken wires fixed or replaced. If no broken wires or loose connections, Replace temperature sensor.

CODE SF CURRENTLY DISPLAYED ON LED / CLEANED 2 SENSORS ON EXTERNAL PLUMBING,SAME CODE. LOOKING FOR LOCATION OF TEMP.SENSOR?

The code SF indicates there is either a bad temperature sensor or the input to heater is faulty. I would buy a temperature sensor from a pool supply suppilier and install it. That solution has a very high likelihood of being successful. If you have a few tools and a little mechanical ability installation should be easy. I hope this helps

Pool heater want heat

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

SF refers to the temperature sensor so short of disconnected or damaged wiring; you will need to replace the temp sensor. Your part number should be IDXLTER1930. We stock the original Hayward part and sell them for $48.94. If you want to order one use the contact feature found along the bottom of our page at www.arrowpools.net.

From your owner's manual found here.
