How to re-setup the linksys wireless router

If you did not change the IP address of your router then you can configure one of your computer to use static IP address in the same subnet as the IP address of the router and connect to the router on one of the LAN port. Then you can open the web page of the configuration by using the IP address of the router (on the LAN side) such as 192.168.0.1 (according to the manual or specification you can find about that router on linksys web site). Then you can login and configure the settings. Sometimes they use Admin and blank password as default login in user credential. If you want to restore the factory default, then you just need to press in the reset button which is usually a tiny hole on the back of the router close to the power cord. You can stick a paper clip or something into it and hold it for like 30 seconds and everything will be restored.

I can't load some web pages when I connect wireless with the Sabrent NT-WRLRT Wireless broadband router

There could be several reasons for this. Make sure your DNS settings are correct, you can test this by using another computer..
replace <URL> with the address you are having problems with. i.e. google.com if you can't pul up google on your wireless machine, and replace <IP> with the resulting IP address

on your working computer:
1) go to start > run > type " cmd " in the box and hit enter
2) in the new window that opened, type ping <URL>
3) when the pings are successful, write down the IP address (you will see " pinging <URL> [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] <--- This is IP address)

now go to your malfunctioning machine and repeat the process, if the IP addresses are different, you will need to change your DNS settings. If they are the same, and you still cannot pull up the site, the site itself may have problems, or you may have inadvertinly blocked the site within your browser from being displayed, this can usually be undone by checking the security features withing your browser's security settings

Ive changed computers and lost my wireless router cd how can i make it work

Below is a list of router brands and their respective IP addresses.

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Download_Area/ATW_Library/Networking/Network__4-List_of_default_Router_Admin_Passwords_and_IP_addresses.pdf

With Internet Explorer, just type in the number for your respective brand of router into the address bar and hit enter. If this matches your router, and you have unimpeded communication from your pc to your router, it will access the router login and setup page.
Now just add your account information to it, and set it up like new.

For example, I have a 2WIRE wireless modem for AT&T, and typing 192.168.1.254 in IE takes me to the setup page for my router.

If you access the router and have set up a router password that you forgot, you can hit the RESET button on it and start fresh. Also, I am sure your internet provider will gladly help if needed.

Good luck!

I lost the instructions on how to install a Linksys wireless router. I would like to down load these instructions.

cable setup

This guide is recommended for Cable Internet Service in the USA like Charter, Cox, Comcast, Cable Vision, etc.
  1. First you need to connect the device together. You need to connect your cable modem to the internet port on the back of the router, and the computer should go to one of the 4-port on the router labeled Ethernet (1, 2, 3, 4).
  2. Then turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stabilize before powering on the Linksys router. Lights that you should have on the router are Power (solid green), Wireless/WLAN (Green sometimes flashing), One of the no. lights where the computer is plugged in (flashing), And the internet light (flashing).
After doing this step there are times that this will already get you online. If the internet will not work, you continue following the steps 3.

3. If the internet is still not working; we will need to adjust a setting on the router setup page. To access the setup page of the router you need to open your internet explorer or Firefox on the computer that is hardwired directly to the router. In the address bar of your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) type http://192.168.1.1/ and hit enter or click Go. It will ask you for a username and password. Just type "admin" for the password field and there is no username. If you have ran the setup CD prior to this, then use the password that you have set when were running the setup CD.
4. Once you are in the setup page of your router make sure that the Internet Connection Type is set to Automatic Configuration DHCP, then click the save the settings button at the bottom of the page. After saving the settings, click the sub tab at the very top of the page that says MAC Address Clone. Set it to enable and click the button that will say Clone or Clone your PC's MAC and save the settings again.

5. After doing step 4, do a power cycle. Power cycle is done by turning of the router, modem and computer. Leave them off for a minute, tuned them back on in this order. Modem first wait for the lights to stabilize, then the router wait until the power light become solid. Then turn on the computer. This will get you online through the router.

NEED SOFTWARE FOR THE BELKIN WIRELESS G ROUTER

Routers do not require any software to set them up. Instead, they are configurable by access a built in web page on the device. While the address of the page will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, most belkin devices will be accessible by clicking on this link: http://192.168.2.1. The default setup will not use a password, so just click submit. You should now be able to configure the device. If you get stuck, refer to the product manual for your specific router.
If that link I provided before does not let you in, then someone at sometime has changed it's configuration. It's best to perform a reset on the equipment, which is also detailed in the manual.
Comment back with the specific model of your router (found on the bottom of the router), and i'll see if I can hep you locate the manual.

How do I set up my Linksys router?

Physical Setup of a LinkSys Router Each model of LinkSys router will differ slightly, but the general design is similar across all models. Therefore, the setup is similar across all models.
  1. Attach the antennas to the router (if your LinkSys router support wireless)d
  2. Plug the Ethernet cable from your broadband Internet provider into the port labeled "Internet"
  3. Plug another Ethernet cable into one of the available ports
  4. Plug the other end of that same cable into an Ethernet port on your PC
LinkSys Router Configuration LinkSys routers now ship with a Setup Wizard which is intended to simplfy basic configuration tasks.
We do not recommend the LinkSys Setup Wizard for two reasons:
  1. The Setup Wizard is not significantly easier that the regular configuration menus
  2. If you use the Setup Wizard, you will end up learning two interfaces for your LikSys router instead of just one
Instead, we recommend simply starting your web browser and jumping into the configuration.
Once your web browser is open, go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password.
setup-linksys-router.jpg
Logging in to a LinkSys Router
The username is either blank or "admin" and the default password is "admin".
Once you are past the login screen, you are able to access (and change) a plethora of configuration options for your router.
Don't be worried by the enormous number and variety of options, your LinkSys router ships with default settings that enable it to work right out of the box in most environments.
From here the configuration options that you choose are largely up to your own personal preference.
If this is a wireless router, we recommend that you consider setting an SSID to identify the router as your own and configuring WEP to encrypt your wireless traffic.

I need to find out how to secure my router

The best way in my opinion is to put your router behind a linux firewall, such as smoothwall. Any old computer with two network interface cards will work.
A guide to install smoothwall can be found here: http://linux-noob.com/review/smoothwall/express/3/

Computer will not recognise netgear router through ethernet port

1) Make sure that the router is correctly plugged in.

2) Power the router down, wait a few secs and then
turn it back on.

3) Hardware reset the router to factory defaults, there should be
a small hidden button to do this.

4) Check the LED lights on the router, and on the back of the
computer's network card (or connector) to make sure the
router is actually communicating at the physical layer.

Check for a bad cable.
Make sure that you are using the correct CAT cable,
not an uplink cross-over.

5) Open up your WEB browser, and if your home page comes
up, then your done.

6) If not, type the router's default IP address into the
Browser's address line and hit GO button or press return.

Typically this address is: 192.168.1.1, if not, check the
router's manual.

7) If the router's setup page comes up, the router is
communicating and all you need to do is setup
the router's features and settings. (see router manual)

8) If the router's setup page does NOT come up in your web
browser, the router is NOT communicating.
------

9) Check your network ICON on the task bar if there is one,
does it show full connectivity ?

10) Got to: START --> ALL PROGRAMS --> Accessories -->
Command prompt.

11) In the DOS-like command prompt window, type:

ipconfig /release <Enter>
ipconfig /renew <Enter>

ipconfig/All <Enter>

12) Check the display. it should list all your network settings.

13) You should see the network card's brand name,
Physical MAC address in the form of 6 pairs
of hexadecimal digits (48 bit address)

14) You should see your computer's IP address in the
form 192.168.1. (some number between 2 to 255)

This address should be assigned to your computer by
the router using the DHCP protocol

15) If ANY of the above checks fail, run the network setup
Wizard:

a) go to the control panel
b) double click on NETWORK SETUP WIZARD

c) Select my computer connects to the internet using
another computer or a residential gateway (router)

Choose DHCP, not a static address

This should do the trick

Your computer should now be configured to accept a dynamic
IP address from the router using DHCP

Open your WEB browser, type int the router's default IP address,
login into the router with a default factory password, and
set it up based on the instruction manual, or call the router
manuf's tech support line for help.

Good luck

Martin

P.S.
If your router does not provide DHCP services,
which is very unlikely, you may have to consult your
router manual on how to set up a STATIC IP
address, but I have never come across this
problem with any modern router. The dynamic address
should work.

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Control Protocol,
whereby your computer sends out a special packet
requesting the assignment of its IP address from the router.
