Question about Printers & Copiers

2 Answers

I have a HP G55xi Office Jet printer. I just bought a Dell Insprion 530 computer. This computer connects to a printer through a USB port. I have a Trendnet TU-P1284 cable. This is connected to the computer's USB port and then to the old printer serial port. The computer says the printer has been installed, but it will not print. Any suggestions? Thank you, Sherry Craemer timsherry8935@hotmail.com

I thought you were trying to print remotely into another computer which is not the case..what you will have to do is to go on your control panel...go under printer and faxes...once you click on it..you will see the printer listed...Its going to say ready there..right click on the printer...click on properties..aand then go under ports..once you under ports it will show you all the ports..and one of them is going to show the printer name..click on that one and hit ok..that should solve your problem..If that doesnt do it let me know..

what is your Operating system? (note that specs are for Win 98 to WIN XP )

The TU-P1284 1284 USB/Parallel converter cable from Trendnet enables you to connect a parallel printer to a USB port of your desktop or laptop computer. With the 1.1 USB technology, the TU-P1284 is compatible from Window 98 to Windows XP. The TU-P1284 has a length of 2 metres and eliminates the manual or automatic parallel commutator. This cable can support a data transfer rate of up to 12 Mbps. The TU-P1284 is very easy to install and can be used as easily as Plug and Play

My office jet G85 won't print. No error messages appear,it has a new color cartridge,it copies, but won't print from my computer.

If it copies ok, then the issue is either the way it is cabled to computer or the print driver software settings on pc.... How is it connected via USB? Check port and correct driver is in windows/control panel/printers. Reinstall.

Hi,

The USB cable is available in any departmental store ( like bestbuy, walmart etc ) or computer sales firm.
Ask for USB 2.0 cable as it is compatible with the printer and your laptop.

It looks like it isn't an hp wireless printer. You can connect to the printer via a usb cord and download the software from HP if you want to. Another way is have the printer connected to a wired computer via usb and share the printer and then with the other computer on you could print pages from the wireless laptop to the printer.

The manual, which is available here: http://canoncanada.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/canoncanada.cfg/php/enduser/fattach_get.php?p_sid=Lu2p4Q7j&p_accessibility=0&p_tbl=9&p_id=1050&p_created=1018298755&p_olh=0, states that your printer only has a parallel connection which isn't present on most newer computers since it has been replaced by USB.

All you need to get in order to plug in your printer is a USB printer port adapter such as this one: http://www.usbgear.com/317474.html. This will add the necesary port to your computer.

HP Laser Jet 1320n series

The HP LaserJet 1320 has a USB port and a Parallel port.

The HP LaserJet 1320n has a USB port and an Ethernet port.

USB-to-Parallel converter cables, like this one, are designed to attach a parallel device to a computer's USB port.

But you need to do the opposite (attach a USB device to a computer's parallel port). A USB-to-Parallel converter cable will not do this.
