I have tried to copy some VHS tapes of some old camcorder videos (non-copyrighted) to DVD with the results being that the DVD made is only readable on the GOVIDEO machine and not any other DVD reader.  Is there some format difference in DVD land that was like in the CD land?

In the past I have been able to copy VHS to DVD and was able to play them in any computer or dvd player. Now I have copied three VHS s and none of them will play no matter where I try. None are copyrighted. All are family picture taken with a camcorder. Is there a way to finalize so they can be played anywhere. Hopefully waiting for a solution.

DVD's recorded on GoVideo do not play on any other DVD. We no longer have the GoVideo recorder (not sure which model) and can not play the DVD recordings of family functions or tv recordings. We have consulted with several professionals to no avail.

Some DVD players have a protection which keeps you from playing copy writed DVD's even if it's on the DVD-R's. Most of the latest DVD players within the past 3-4yrs have this intergraded into it. In that case, your recorder is really working you just need a DVD player that supports your recorded dvd's vs. non-recorded ones.

Have you also tried to play those DVD's on a media center/system on your pc or computer? That might also help you decipher if it's really the burner or the DVD players as well...

Let us know how it goes. Hope this helps..unfortunately when the DVD player has that prevention already intergraded internally there is no way to remove it..its just how it comes.

Is it possible to copy video from a vhs to a dvd?

If the DVD drive is a recorder, yes. If it is a player only, no. If the tape is copy-protected, recording to a DVD recorder is not possible. Assuming the tapes are not copy-protected, and you are using a DVD recorder with the correct format DVDs (DVD-R for example), you shouldn't have any problems transferring old VHS tapes to DVD.

I've purchased a philips dvd videoplayer, dvp3350v/05, with the aim of being able to copy from video to dvd...having read the manual though, it reads like the only copying it will do is from dvd to...

The DVP3350V/05 is a DVD player / Video recorder combi, so will only play DVDs, not record on to them.

You will need a Philips DVDR3510V or DVDR3512V, to record from VHS to DVD.

www.cheapestelectrical.co.uk should have them in stock, if not contact them for availability.

Also, most pre-recorded VHS tapes are copy protected, so you may experience picture rolling and colour fading in & out on any copies you make.
Any VHS tapes you have recorded yourself will not have this copy protection, and will copy ok.

Samsung DVD-V$357 recorded dvds won't play on other machines

Did you finalize the disk? If not, this should solve your problem. When the disk is finalized you should be able to play it on your computer if you can play other DVDs on it. Some other DVD players can only play specific disks (i.e. DVD-R, DVD+R). This may be another problem.

Copy a vhs to a dvd on govideo dvr4200

This model is a DVD player only. It does not record to DVD's. You would need to get a model that has a DVD recorder.
