Question about Computers & Internet

Pause Actionscript I have created a flash clip with pictures of a cruise. Within that clip, I have a play button and stop button. I wanted the stop button to stop at the point the button is clicked and released, but I don't know how to do that (I guess this is a pause function) The Play button would resume the clip when the button is clicked - don't know how to do this either. I am a beginner at this and I just know the basic start and stop. Can anyone help?

    Thanks so much for your help! But I realize, I really don't know what I am doing!

    ok, so the script says

    StopBtn.onRelease = function () {
    trace ("onRelease called");

    StopBtn- is what I have called my Stop button -- but the error that I am getting says

    Scene= Scene 1, Layer = Layer 37, frame= 1, Line 1

    Statement must appear within on handler

    what am I doing wrong?

    ok, now I have tried this

    on (release) {StopBtn.onRelease = function () {
    trace ("pause");

    But "Pause" nor "Stop" works, how do I finish off the script?

    Hi Bob,

    Thanks for the help! But, it's still not working. My flash file is 1 scene, with 39 Layers in which there is 1 image on each Layer and each image goes through a transition state. The Stop/pause button and play buttons are each on their own layer also. So, I clicked on the Stop(pause) button to apply the action script you suggested above to it. The clip plays and when I click the button, it doesn't work. Are there any other properties or script I should be using? I also tried a new file with the whole swf imported and then having the 2 other layers with the buttons but that didn't work either.

    I really appreciate your help.

    here is your code

    on (release) {StopBtn.onRelease = function () {
    trace ("pause");

    try this code

    StopBtn.onRelease = function() {

    StopBtn is your stop button (normal sintax is Stop_btn)

    the action is "onRelease"

    the function is "stop"

    so what this new code is saying is -

    when the StopBtn is released, the action script will run a function called :"stop"

    and stop your movie from running.

    if you want, send me your complete action script, and or flash file to and i'll take a look at it for you.

    a great tool for learning flash is Learn Flash . com

    they are awsome videos

    good luck

How do I pause while recording? I can pause while playing back but can't seem to figure out how to pause a recording then resume, it just stops and starts a new clip. Please help. (My handycam is cano

The default is to start a new clip every time you press the stop button, but in settings you might be able to tell the camera to continue with the same clip provided you press record again with a set time. Not sure why you want to do this though - it's much easier to edit using small clips than very large ones.

Actionscript to playback to a certain frame

you need to make sure that your button is a button not a movie clip.
then enter the following:
on (release) {
//Movieclip GotoAndStop Behavior
//End Behavior

were it says 5 change to another frame number also change stop to play if you want it to auto play.

Try action script 2.0 it is easier to use:

First click on your symbol and got the behaviors menu
Then click the + symbol movie clip goto and stop or play
then click absolute and type in the frame you want

Still Images from a Movie Clip????

If you are using windows xp then it is easy, get in movie maker in xp. Play the clip in the preview monitor.
    • On the Play menu, click Play Storyboard or Play Timeline, depending on the view you are working in, and then pause playback at the frame of video you want to capture as a picture.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Take Picture from Preview. -or-
    On the monitor, click the Take Picture button.
  2. In the File name box, enter a name for the picture file, and then click Save.
