First time using Hoover Steamvac. Follow instruction to clean rug. Looked like everything was working. Rug looked cleaner. Used about 1/2 of cleaner tank. When I went to empty the catch tank, it was dry. What could be wrong? I thought I went slow.
Which you had posted your model number, If you have a foam filter on the inside of tyhe recovery tank lid, make sure there is at least a 1/4 in. gap between the lid and the top of the filter. Make sure that the lid is locked down in the back, try to push it up, if it is locked it won't move. If yours has a place for a duct in front of the recovery tank, make sure it is there and pushed all of the way down.

I had the same thing happen to mine. I looked at the hose in the water tank and the screen at the end if the hose was slimy and clogged. I took the screen off and cleaned it up, put everything back together and it works like new again. Only 2 screws and a screen.
You have an air leak. This is almost always caused by the lid not being correctly installed on the recovery tank. Remove the lid, hook it in the back, and snap the front latch in place. A less common problem is that the square duct on the front of the lower tank has been removed to use the attachment hose and not put back in the tank after use.
Hi, empty the recovery tank of the Hoover SteamVac if the cleaner fails to pick up dirt. Once the tank is full, many Hoover models have an automatic shutoff that stops the cleaner. If the does not resolve the pickup issue, check the hose of the machine and remove any blockage.
Examine the water tank if water does not dispense from the SteamVac. It could be empty and need of a refill, or you may not have locked the dispenser firmly in place. The detergent tank should also be looked at and filled if empty.
first remove the dirty water tank then turn the unit on if your facing the front there is a duct on the right where the tank sets there should be a black seal around it if you have suction there then you will need to check the tank
call hoover with your model and serial number ...this is a known problem with these and Hoover is replacing the tanks for free on defective units...you should have a new tank in about 7 days oh and dont forget to flush out your solution pump regularly by emptying the solution and filing it with water then spray for about 3 min into a sink ...these pumps are known to lock up from soap residue when it dries..the pump is about $50 plus labor
