My Rinnai energysaver 557ftr is showing error code 12. It will turn on, the fan works and it makes a bubbling noise and the flame lights but then immediately goes out and the heater stops.

It is a Gas Appliance and needs repair by a qualified gas registered technician. It is a generic code for 'no flame'.

Please quote the code displayed when enquiring about service. FAULT. Ignition failure. Flame failure. Overheat. Room overheat. Room Temperature. Sensor faulty.

I have a rinnai Avenger 25 portable unflued gas covection heater. once turned on the room temperature keeps increasing well beyond the set temperature. I thought temperature is auto regulated.

I think your assumption is correct and the temperature should automatically regulate to the chosen value and if it doesn't, clearly the thermostat is faulty or the thermostat control - electronic message not reaching the thermostat, though it is possible the temperature sensor is separate and is sending wrong information to the "brain".

My 606a rinnai heater flashes 12

According to the Rinnai manual which is here:
https://www.rinnai.us/documentation/downloads/RC-606-48x05(00)_owners_manual_RCE-606TRAII_vent_free.pdf

It looks like that is a "flame failure". They suggest ventilating the room and turning the heater off and on again, I think this might mean the heater was eating all of the oxygen in your room.

Maybe cracking a window a small bit?

Our Rinnai convector unflued room heater won't start. Lights just flash heat never comes on.

According the the Owner's Manual for your Rinnai Convector Heater, there are 8 things, than can cause what you described. Two of which can be discounted, unless you just had the heater installed.

I have provided a link to the Owner's Manual, that you can download and print for future reference. Please pay close attention to Page # 6 -Pre-Service Check List and Fault Finding. Each problem listed has a troubleshooting solution.

OUr Rinnai gas heater convector 516tr keeps on turning itself off and flashes 12 on the light panel. What does that mean and how to fix it? tks

Hi.

12 flashes means "Incomplete combustion". The code is prompted when the flame turns off because of a problem.

Check filter, check gas pressure and thermocoupling. Those are the problem that commonly trigger the code 12 error.

Here a manual.

Here Fixya thread on the problem.

Rinnai heater flashes code 12

Bailey,

Next time you try your stove watch the flame. If the flame goes away and then the error code comes on, you have something wrong with the over temp circuit, gas or gas valve, If the code comes on and then the flame goes away you have a flame sensor problem.

Good luck,

Hi - I have a Rinnai Convector 406 gas heater which is 2 years old. Yesterday, it started cutting out with an error code of "12" showing in the display. It can be re-started but only stays on for a few...

I believe the 12 is the error code for "incomplete combustion". In this case you will want to start with the thermocouple. If you are not handy at these things I would call a service tech. You can find a service person on their website.
