I have used my Enviro MG21 with windows 7 and now Win 8 with no problems so I don't think it is comparability issue.
Try opening up "My Computer" and see if Enverio appears as a device, if not try adding it via "Control Panel - then add device abd manually install via the on screen instructions"
Use this site to see if there are any compatibilities problems with vista. http://www.jvc-victor.co.jp/english/download/vista.html
Then there is an upgrade site from cyberlink just for JVC customers. Sorry though, looks like you might have to pay for the upgrade. http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/oem/jvc/upsell_09/enu/index.jsp
Hopefully someone comes up with a free way to connect and share with your PC.
Can't help u much, however, I rec'd the "HDD error" msg as well. All I did (out of panic) was turn off computer, pull out battery, put battery back in and then it was fine again for viewing off camera.
Hope at least THAT helps!
I have a JVC Everio GZ-HD3AA camcorder which I recently purchased. I am able to connect it a TV and watch video files, but they all appear in black and white! The downloaded movies to my laptop (Acer aspire 5630) with windows vista as the operating system are played in slow motion on the laptop screen.
