Glue parts error

I am trying to run the recovery disk on a Packard Bell computer "Error 5 Glue parts error". I have very little experience in this field. Is there a simple solution or will I have to hand the computer over to a professional?

    Hello matsolof,

"Simple" is a relative term. If you have the patience and time, we can step you through restoring your operating system off of the recovery CD or at least assist you in diagnosing the reason you're unable to do so.

To answer you question, this solution likely won't be a quick fix. Working w/ computers in the best of situations and levels of experience requires a lot of patience...as it is quite often very labor intensive.

So, having said that, if you'd like to pursue fixing this critter yourself, we're glad to help. If you have the means and you'd rather let a professional do the dirty work - I'm sure others will agree, we certainly understand.

If you'd like to take a stab at it... 1st we'll need some information from you regarding your computer.

    (01) What is the Packard Bell model no. and serial no. of your computer?

    (02) Does your computer have a working floppy diskette drive?

    (03) Does you computer have a working optical (CD-ROM, DVD, etc) drive?

    (04) Do you have access to another computer that you can use to "burn" a hard drive diagnostic utility to?

    (05) Is the recovery CD you are using the one that came with the computer?

    (06) What operating system did the computer come w/ originally - and - Is the same OS (operating system) installed now?

    (07) What precipitated your attempting to run the OS recovery on your computer? The reason I ask is, the issue that caused you to choose to do this may be related to why you're unable to run the recovery CD (e.g. a failing hard disk drive).

Once we've identified what hard drive is installed in your computer, we (I) will recommend that you run a hard drive diagnostic to determine if your hard drive is working properly b4 continuing on to restore your operating system.

If you already know what hard drive is installed (or at least its manufacturer), you may go HERE to choose an appropriate (free) hard disk drive diagnostic utility.

You'll be required to download the utility then either "burn" it to a CD-R disc or create a bootable floppy diskette. We'll help you w/ that as well if you like.

Please, get back to us w/ your answers and we'll move on to the next steps towards repairing your computer.

    Thank you,
    BJ

Once we receive your answers to these questions, we'll have more information to work w/ in order to assist you.

    Thank you,
    BJ

Packard Bell units have the same recovery procedure as Acer computers if they are sold on the UK market, because Acer make Packard Bell for the UK [& emachines which are awful].

Power on and immediately hold down the ALT key, and tap the F10 key. This should load into the recovery console. From there, running a full recovery is self explanatory. If you are doing this to recover the PC from a virus I would recommend running the full destructive recovery which is usually the top option out of the two.

I have a Packard Bell Imedia desktop not sure of the model. It was working fine until recently, I switched on my pc and after the boot screen "NTLDR is missing Alt Ctrl Del" message appeared....

Remove the hard disk and attach it to an USB hard drive adapter and then connect it into the USB port of a working computer. This computer will detect the hard drive as an external storage device, then you can open the various folders and files to copy your files to this computer or burn your data to a CD/DVD disc or USB flash drive.
Return you hard disk back to your Packard Bell so you can reinstall Windows.

Fixya is not and never has been a representative for Packard Bell, Dell, HP, Sony, Gateway, or any other computer OEM or accessory hardware manufacturer. What we are is a site to where computer users can come to get some degree of professional help regarding various computer issues. The more information provided by the customer, the more likely we can be of some help. Your problem referring to a Packard Bell Imedia 1308 might be best answered on the Packard Bell site here. It would be my wish that questions that might deal with warrenty issues and manufacturer OEM issues be properly handled by the OEM in question. And there is NO doubt in my mind that Fixya has never provided a recovery disk for your or anyone's model computer. What we can do sometimes depending on our experience levels with various computers is provide information that might help someone create their own recovery disk from software that comes installed from the OEM factory on their computers. For example, my Sony Vaio has recovery software that creates factory default recovery DVDs, and Fixya has no legitimate and probably no legal reason to be providing such information. So please refer to your OEM manufacturer or the vendor who sold you the computer for these kinds of questions.

From parkard bell suppport website Quote

"Step 4 - Re-installing your software
Call the help desk and ask them to guide you through the
ExtHS process.
Please have your Recovery CDs to hand when you call
the Easy Repair line.

Once you have completed the ExtHS process you will

1. Disconnect all peripheral devices (web cam, printer,

CD / DVD drive and restart your computer.
3. The CD will load and display the following message:

Recovery Program in your user’s guide for instructions
on this utility. Press OK if you want to continue
or Cancel to return to DOS.
4. Press the letter O on your keyboard to continue.
5. You will see a menu with options. Please select option 1
“Standard System Restore”
by pressing the 1 key on
your keyboard.
6. A warning message about data loss will be displayed.
Press the letter O to continue.
7. The process will take around 40 minutes. Once this is
done you will need to restart your PC. Remove the CDs
and store them in a safe place.
8. If there was a Software Library DVD supplied with your
PC you can use this to install the extra software that was
supplied with your computer. Insert this into the drive
and follow the onscreen instructions.

hi abrb1220,

connect the hard disk to another pc, if the same error appears, means that the HDD is "dead", doesn't worth any effort because it's time is over.
