    Thanks Geno.

I was in that site today but they were of no help. After one hour and a half of talking to their (seagate/maxtor) tech support... all he said was - they cant find it on their data base and it was an internal hard drive with an external casing and they dont support that type of external hard drive. This really sucks now! He wanted me to take the case apart and install internal drive directly to my pc as an internal drive...! Why in the world would I do that?

There should be a driver for this somehwere!

You should be able to download the drivers from HERE . They only list product names like Maxtor One Touch 4 and such, so I couldn't point you to an exact link.

Hope that fixed ya..

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

That drive should be supported by most if not all operating systems without a driver.. (windows has one built in).. I did find some info saying that windows 7 has a problem with early drives. Presumably 8 and 10 would also have problems. You may find more info here:

Drivers for Maxtor Peripherals

These USB external drives doesn't need any drivers at all if you have windows 2000/xp/vista, I suggest you to try some other USB ports if the one you tried doesn't work. Or if you are using an USB hub than try it out without it, and maybe a different or shorter cable could be the solution if it's still not good. If after all this the drive is still wrong try it out on a different PC and see what'll happen.

My Maxtor 120 GB external hard drive is not compatible with windows XP

Most likely you'll need to covert the file system on the Maxtor drive to NTFS

Example command:

CONVERT E: /FS:NTFS

My maxtor 750GB external drive is not recognized by my CPU anymore!

It's probably either WinXP and a hub fighting over drive IDs, special drivers you installed but haven't been upgrading, or the thing isn't powered up properly.  Go to.  Oh, and your CPU (Intel, ARM, AMD, whatever) never recognizes hard drives; it's up to the OS.  What OS?  That's how you present a problem properly, in the right category.

Maxtor basics external drive

Hi Nuisance101, I recall your running vista. Vista is a nightmare. If you cound only see the troubles we see on a daily basis here at FixYa you'ed understand. It's a common problem with Vista not seeing USB devices, externial devices. It does & then the next second it doesn't. Same for all external devices. I'm am 100% sure the trouble is not your system or your devices. It's Vista. I have gone over dozens of post from vista users. One would think MS has been on vacation since the release of vista. You can look at vista's web site for help for a possible fix, at this link. (I have no faith). MS blames driver software. Your Maxtor drive is external. Henve no driver software.
So it falls into that vista area of one time vista see's the drive & the next it does not.
Either way I though Maxtor addressed vista issues. I prefer Seagate drives myself. Personally know lots of people who's Maxtor's drives have just gone down for no reason. Seagate bought Maxtor.

Most of the post from vista users, claim users should check vista's updates often. Since Max Blaster did its job, I'm inclined to blame vista.

I wish I could give you a better fix or suggestion but I'm up against vista. That's why I run WinXP Pro. I do not have these problems.

Best wishes Nuisance101!
Mike
