SAV2555A Top Load wont spin

Do u think it may be the pulley, when i have the belt hook up and turn it by hand it turns one way no problem the other way it turns for a moment then it makes a clicking noise and is hard to turn. but when i don't use the pulley it seems to spin okay but after a while the belt will come of. could it be a bad belt? also do you have any pics of this washer that may help me repair it we find the problem, thanks again for your help.

Im including this link for visual, Idont think this is your issue, but , you may be experencing an issue with the pulley / helix(bottom white). i would try removing and replacin the helix if appears worn(the top of the angular plastic gets rounded and allows the pulley to POP passed it. plus its only 1 bolt below holding it on, in order to replce the pulley youre gonna need to dismantle quite a bit of this machine

My washer wont spin or agitate and there was a burning smell

Hi
Older top load washers use a belt to drive to transfer the energy from motor to drum. However, if the belt slips, stretches, or breaks, it can cause friction and a burning smell, most likely a burning "rubber" smell. The belt is located either from the back access panel or from the underside of the washer. The solution is to replace the belt with a new one. To replace the belt you can open the back lid of the washer
To replace the belt carefully pry up on front washer top to release plastic keeper pins, remove 2 Phillips screws from beneath lower front washer panel, slightly lift upward on panel to release. Now remove old broken belt, push new belt beneath large tub pulley and put belt on small motor pulley. After this push back belt tension /idler arm, start belt on large tub pulley, turn tub pulley by hand to run belt on, release tension on idler arm. Replace front panel and lower top.
Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

It doesn't want to spin the drum - burns the belts off - I can spin it by hand by turning the pulley underneath but it turns very hard

If your washer is not spinning you need to check this part.
  1. Test the lid switch
  2. Test the timer control
  3. Test the centrifugal switch
  4. Test the water level switch
  5. Inspect the motor coupler
  6. Inspect the drive belt(belt drive only)
  7. Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
  8. Test the motor
  9. Inspect the pulley
  10. Test the transmission

Sounds like something got stuck some where take off belt try to spin water pump pulley some times socks get caught if it will not turn take it out and clean it out if you can if not replace it.
Turn transmission pulley it to the left it should be stiff but should turn by hand if not call a service provider. Look at the belt is it worn in spots cracked or show fibers if so replace it.

Pull your washer forward then tilt the top backwards until it sits at about a 45 degree angle. There should be a belt and 3 pulleys underneath. Remove the belt (one of the pulleys will move to allow slack) Ignore the moving pulley and the large pulley in the center. The third pulley is your pump. Try to turn it by hand, it should move freely. Presumably, it wont and will need to be replaced.

Maytag SAV2555 will not spin

it does( withiut looking at it myself), sound like the pulley/helix are just slipping past eachother and not engaging one anoher, does the sloped side of the pulley(wehre it meshes with the helix appear to be rounded over???) thats really the only reason i could see to replace the pulley.. for get trying oto spin the belt can you grab hold of the p[uley and try spinning it directly????. rfeason i askl is that in order to replace the pulley, youll need to rease th springs around the bottom of tub, and remove the entire unit from the cabinet, after removing unit, turn unit upside down, you need to remove the motor,, then unbolt the 3 white legs form the outer tub, and remove the 3 brake pads bolted to underneath uint with 3/8 nuts, the stansion then will lifht up giving you room to remove the pulley. awful alot of work if not needed,

the pulley will not remove very easily , it wold require removine the milk stool, motor and some other parts, not the easiest hing to do especially if not needed, the helix you removed, take a look at it , the sloped ends of it should create a pretty sharp angle, then a 90degree drop off, the slopes om the pulley should be the same, they should not apppear to be rounded off, helix is probly 10 bucks if needed and if its at the helix that you see the "slipping" and "clicking noise, before condeming the tranny i would start with tthe helix, if after re-installing it it still clicks up and over pully perhaps try adding another spacer under the bolt before tightening. the idea behind the pulley and helix is that depending on rotation of the transissiion, the helix "pushes against" the pulley adn spreads the brake plate, releasing the brake allowing the tub tospin freely

Wont spin and makes a noise

def needs a pully to add tension in order to spin. reconnect adn watch what it does. where does noise appear to come from??? sometimes the lower most "helix" strips out on machine and sounds as if theres amototr boat in you machine. Its the bottom most item on the centraal shaft of the transmission held o by a 1/2 bolt. if either that or the pulley above it strip it wont dissengage the brake assy and will "motor boat" with no action from transmission

Washing machine belt won't move

You probably have bad spin tube bearings. Look above transmission for a water leak or evidence of one.
