Sounds like your drive might've gone hidden check in the disk management console under control panel>administrative tools>
computer mgt>disk mgt
see if the drive is disabled or there's like a mini no enter sign in there might be the reason why oh yeah also TweakUI and other programs are known to mess up with Lacie so google that and you should be able to find out some tips to help you
Also Partition Magic can actually unhide hard drives that are "stubborn" so that program might help as well other wise read my instructions below specifically the3 important notes and second half in your case...

Before you read this solution!!!! READ 3 IMPORTANT NOTES!
1. If you dropped it and it's clicking continuously sorry but it's probably trashed... When you call up Lacie about the Warranty DO NOT TELL THEM YOU DROPPED IT they will void out your warranty and you will end up having to buy another HD adding insult to injury when you lost your files as well... just say it's not working... It's not lying It's just called sticking it to corporate glutons who from whispers I've heard sell refurbished Lacie drives as new ones to ignorant customers
2. I've been doing some research and certain programs like TweakUI a program that Microsoft installs which can be found in your control panel does conflict with the Lacie HD
3.This problem occurs whether or not you use a firewire or usb or sata so if you don't have one of these sockets in your computer
don't buy extra equipment

The Meat:
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaactually Windows regardless of XP or Vista tends to screw up when it comes to Lacie drives...
This is how you fix it for sure:
go to control panel
administrative tools
computer management console
open up the disk management section
in there....
you'll see your C: drive or what other drives you may have already set up
you'll see one drive that doesn't have anything assigned to it no drive letter or anything 95% of the time that will probably be your lacie drive fresh out the box
Only thing you gotta do now is enable that drive by right clicking on the grey box next to it where it should say disk and for the sake of simplicity let's say it says Disk 1 or Disk 2 whatever
Enable it then partition it using NTFS if you're only going to use it on windows and FAT32 if you want to be able to use it on both MAC and PC

If you already have things on your hard drive from before and it just started acting up:

Try doing these 3 things:
First Lacie said that the drives can be tempermental when you don't shut them down right... so you would have to
disconnect all wires
connect power cord only and plug it in
turn it on wait a couple of secs.
connect usb cable to drive then to computer
that's one way of fixing it

if that doesn't work

you can try going to control panel> system> hardware> device manager

in there try and see if you have anything with a yellow question mark or exclamation point or a red X next to a USB controller or
Composite device or to Mass Storage Device under USB peripherals

If it has either of those just right click on the device and click update driver

If not right click mass storage device> uninstall
right click composite device> uninstall
right click on icon in lower left hand corner to remove device safely
choose the drive > remove safely> use turn off switch to turn it off...
Now turn it back on and it should reinstall itself

If that still doesn't work there's a couple of tutorials on how to recover files from faulty Lacie drives you can google that and it should be able to help you out for the most part...
This may involve opening up the casing and removing the hard drive not the internals and connecting it to your desktop directly
worst case scenario you may have to repartition/format your drive and it should be back to normal at this point your going to have to call

My iqon hard drive will power up but i cant access it

Clicking sound on an external hard drive is an indication that it's quiting to work. You mentioned that it's just stopped working, you may need to check the Disk Management of your computer to see if you could still reformat it. To do this, please follow the steps below:

1. Make sure that the HD is properly connected to the computer.
2. Right-click 'My Computer' or 'Computer' folder and then go to "Manage".
3. Locate and click Disk Management.
4. Then, take note of the drive letters that will appear on the screen.
5. While the Disk Management window is opened, unplug the HD and check which drive letter will disappear.
6. If a drive letter disappears, then that is your external 250GB HD. You may reformat it to make it work again.

NOTE: Reformatting the HD will erase all the files saved in it. You may want to bring your HD in any data recovery center to retrieve the important files. If the HD didn't show up under your Disk Management, then there's nothing that we could do but to bring your HD in to the Data Recovery to save the files.

1. Connect your HD to the computer.
2. Click 'Go' (located near the Apple icon, Finder, File, Edit and View).
3. Select Utilities and then click the Disk Utility Icon.
4. Take note the drive letters and then unplug the HD.

If a drive letter disappears, that's your HD. If nothing disappears, then the computer no longer detecting the HD.

Good luck!

Am I able to password protect the 34974 Iomega external hard drive? I am not interested in encrypting, just having a password so it cannot be seen by others

Plug your Iomega hard drive into the USB port on your computer. Click the "Start" button and choose the "My Computer" icon. Double-click on your Iomega hard drive's icon. Right-click in a blank space on the window and choose the "New Folder" option from the menu that appears. Highlight and drag all of your data into the new folder that you created. Right-click the new folder and select the "Properties" tab. Navigate to the "Sharing" tab and check the small box next to "Make This Folder Private." Click the "Apply" button and then choose "OK." Use your Windows login password to access the folder and the contents. Hope this helps

Hi, i am trying to upload the picture on my camera (finepix S5700) unto my computer but it is not working, do i need to download the software first or what should i do.

Downloading the software shouldn't be necessary to download the pictures to your computer Hard Drive. Depending on your computer operating system be it PC or Mac it should handle your download as if it was an external hard drive or device. Saying this there are still a lot of "old" Windows program still in operation but if you have Windows XP home edition or newer then no problem. Mac's have a mind of their own and will look at the link as an external Hard Drive.
Maybe what the problem is the sequence in which you are attempting to download. Fist make sure the camera has sufficient power for the transfer of data, then turn it off connect the mini USB cable to the camera and the USB cable end to a computer USB port (nothing will happen at this point.) What I then do is make a folder in My Documents or (Finder) if you are a Mac, and title it with something that relates to the images which will be inside I generally use a month, day and date. At the end of the year (coming soon) I'll make a folder with the year and all the 2010 Months folders will be placed in there. Okay once you have a place to put the picture files turn on the camera in a few seconds the PC may say found a new device and then may put the external device icon on the desk top if not you need to go fetch it from system preferences. Open the file highlight the files and copy them click on the new folder you just made and past them in there. Check see if the picture files are there and then eject the external device/hard drive remember to turn off the device before shutting off the camera and disconnecting the USB cable. If it's a Mac once you turn your camera on the external Hard Drive Icon will appear on the desk top follow the same thing as with the PC. Then once you have "ejected the Hard Drive and the icon has closed shut the camera off and remove the USB cable. Wait you aren't done yet, now you need to format your memory card. Formatting the Memory card cleans the card of the old pictures and provides and clean medium to load new picture files to. Have fun Robert from Canada

My coputer isn't recongnizing my camera? Please help as I have pictures i would like to upload

Normally you would connect the camera to the computer via the mini USB cable then turn the camera on. The computer will see a new storage device and consider it as an external HD an icon should appear somewhere on your desktop. Before you do all this create a folder in "My Documents" when you open the camera/hard drive copy the folder and paste it in the new folder you just created.
The eject the camera hard drive icon and remove the camera the image files are now on your computer hard drive.

Can not open files on other computers from WD external drive

Actually, I have a similar problem.

If you get an error message that says something like "You do not have permission to access this file" or "Access Denied" then these steps should be a temporary fix:
  1. Go to the menu bar & select Tools>Folder Options
  2. Select the view Tab, & look for "Use Simple File Sharing". Uncheck this (Disable it).
  3. Right-click on your external drive icon & click "Properties". Choose the "Security" tab & click on "Advanced".
  4. Click the "Owner" tab, then select the user from the list below (whatever user you're logged in as). Then check "Replace Owner on subcontainer and objects", & click OK>OK.
You are done! But if you don't need the whole HD, you can do steps 3-4 on whichever folder/file you want to access to reduce time taken.

Remember, this is temporary, meaning if you take the HD to another computer then you will have to repeat the steps to regain access of your HD. Any permanent solution?

Disk spins ...then I hear a beep...icon does not show up

The hard disk or the adapter case maybe faulty.
To test the hard disk, remove it form the Iomega case and connect it to an USB hard disk adapter and plug it into a computer's USB port.
If this computer see it as an external hard drive and you can open the folders and files then the hard disk is OK, then the Iomega adapter case is faulty.
Then you need a new hard drive adapter case, it doesn't need to be an Iomega brand.

No external drive icon on desk top

This happened to me as well - i have been reading that it could be the power supply adaptor. If you can try another one - it might solve the problem. The adaptors seem to either be faulty or made to stop working. Great news for us the consumer!!

Lacie sounds like its working , but i can't find the icon on computer

Your hard dive is probably not formatted. You can check if your external hard drive is detected by the BIOS during bootup. You can also check this by Right click on taskbar > properties > startmenu > customize > advanced > scroll down completely and select system administration tools "Display on the all programs menu" > ok. Click on start > all programs > administrative tools > computer management > double click on storage. click on disk management(local) here you should see your lacie. If you dont then the drive is probably not detected. If you see, you can just partition it from here and it will appear in your my computer.
