H02 error on AG-1980 is a "capstan motor error." most likely problem is a defective capstan motor.

Did you try cleaning the tape head of the player?

For some reason be sure all the gear or any mechanical inside the player is freely rotating.

Adjust the VCR tracking to get a good picture.

The message indicates that an internal problem was detected and that the unit has shut down to prevent damage to the tape. The tape will need to be removed by hand. I can not receommend a repair location without knowing where you are.

Can you post an update with your location?

Thanks,
Dan

Get it to a shop. The error is a drum servo related problem. Don't force the mechanism or you'll be out even more...accordianman

These are good old VCRs probably in need of a belt overhaul.

Try unpluging the unit for 2 minutes and see if the error message is reset.
