Deployed with the Military. PS3 is not working. I am told it is the power supply
I got deployed to the desert, I can't give a specific location, however I can say it is really hot here. I bought an 80g PS3 before I left so I can watch movies, and have something to do while I am here at my deployment site. I hooked it up and played it for about an hour one day. I had to go in for a meeting, and came back and my PS3 no longer worked. I can't get power to it, and I don't know what is wrong. I was told it is the power supply. Can someone please let me know what to do. It's sucks being out here without something to do other then just work and catching a farmers tan.

You have to contact sony and get a warranty repair done. If it continues to fail after you get it repaired, you are not alone. I have contacted a law firm that is acquiring info for a possible class action lawsuit. Especially for people who live in California, but everywhere else too: Please have all of your information DOCUMENTED! Write down when your PS3 stopped working and why, whether you have a receipt or not, when or if you contacted Sony, what was the outcome with Sony, if this defect has ever happened before, and what Sony is going to do to remedy this for you. Take all the info and email it to: email@example.com and write in the subject line "Sony Playstation 3". Additionally, if any of you are on another site or are blogging, repost this to spread the word. Good luck all!

If you dropped it and it won't power up now check the power button ribbon cables. If they are seated properly then you damaged the motherboard and you will need to replace the ps3. Don't drop them as they are fragile.
If the scratches aren't severe, and there is no damage to the label side, the plastic service can be polished. If it is important, polishing pastes and/or liquids can be purchased. Try Walmart or Best Buy. If you happen to be in the military deployed with a squadron, get some polish from the A&P shop. If you want to go in quick and cheap, use a soft sloth(like a cloth diaper) and some toothpaste. Wrap the cloth around your first two fingers, wet the cloth, dab a bit of toothpaste on the cloth, and apply the paste to the disk in a circular motion. A mini version of rubbing out a auto paint job or more accurately, spit shining your disc. Toothpaste contains grit,so be careful. If you try this technique, I would suggest that you practice on a disc that you can loose! Good luck Dano

Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the HDMI OUT port on the
back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI
cable into the HDMI Input port of the TV or display monitor.
While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the
front of the system), hold down the
touch-sensitive power button on the front of the system until the system
goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from:
red light --> green light --> then back to red light). This
will ensure that you have held down the power button long enough to
reset the Video Output Settings.
Turn on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and once the system finishes powering
up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard
resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your
In the ps3 manual it does state that occasionally the ps3 does freeze because of the amount of data being processed by the unit and they advise pressing the power button for ten seconds to re-boot the unit. if it is hapening so much that regular usage is affected then the unit should be replaced.
OK this happened to me too. However mine was doing an update for Haze. My Ps3 did did the same thing then shut off, and kept doing what yours is doing. Here is what you try. (1) Try a different power cord, (2) a Different outlet . If those do not work, i Really hope you still have your warranty. After waiting few days i contacted Sony Support and told me there was nothing else that can be done, i was no longer in warranty and had to fork over 150 bucks. What i believe it was is either Power Supply Fried the mother board, or it some how over heated, which for me was less plausible since A it was in a very cold room, plenty of ventilation. Long story short they had to send me a New PS3, and i lost all my stuff, well my saved Data, all other stuff is brought back once you sign on to PSN.
Its possible that the power supply isn't putting out all the voltages required for the ps3 to turn on. Best way to verify it is if you had another known good working power supply to swap it with. If you can swap the power supply and get the ps3 to turn on then you know your power supply is bad. If it still gives you the same problem after swapping then the main board is bad. I believe the ground should show 5 volts. if the 5 volts isn't present then the power supply is definitely bad.
if it does not turn on then its the power supply.. make sure you get a power supply matching your ps3.. the 60gb models have chrome like housing the 40gb have a dull grey color .. different wattage used means different supply is needed.. if you need more help let me know
