Re: power switch will not work
Hoover U6437-900 U6439-900 Windtunnel Upright seems there is a short in the power switch, is that possible, I have it disassembled and seems there is power going into the on/off button, but will only sporadically turn on I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. This could be a defective switch or it could be a loose connection or wire – chances are that it is a defective switch and needs replacement – this could be a slider switch of which does wear out and that is why it will comes on sporadically – if there is a local vacuum cleaner shop in your area they can test the switch and possibly sell you a new one http://www.hoover.com Telephone Contact our Customer Service Department at 1.330.499.9499 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. EST
Just a few screws and you can get to the power switch (black with read on/off switch and two leads). mine broke so I found a cheap replacement online (not Hoover) http://www.vacpartswarehouse.com/Hoover-On-Off-Switch-p/28161075.htm
I love the vac, so it's worth a few buck to fix it.

Although it could be a multitude of things that keep the power nozzle from operating properly, the most likely is, since it's an Epic series, Is that the power nozzle elbow assembly needs replaced as the fine wires and top of the elbow tend to break/short after 5-10 yrs. of use.
It's also very well possible that the power nozzle reset switch or hose switch at top of handle is defective. Try plugging the power nozzle directly into the hose handle assembly and turn machine on. If the power nozzle still doesn't work, it's definitely a problem directly with the power nozzle.
The switch is definitely a possibility, but other problems can also cause this.
Bad switch, needs replaced.
Broken wiring in power nozzle, wands, hose, or canister.
Bad PN motor.
I strongly recommend taking it to the nearest authorized Aerus Electrolux store for a diagnosis (should be free). Allowing them to do any repairs necessary is recommended, as well. This will ensure it's done correctly.
Does the brush turn freely when you try to manually turn it?
Does it rotate when the power nozzle motor is on?
If not, it's most likely the belt that turnd the brush has broken. This will result in the brush not rotating, which in turn doesn't provide the pulling action and ease of use it's supposed to have.
If it's a new machine, you need to take it to the nearest Rainbow store for warranty repair. Disassembling yourself will result in the warranty being voided.
Guessing that the power plug has broken wiring inside the plug--try replacing the plug with an aftermarket plug from the home center or hardware store. Another possibility is the power switch has gone bad--replace it with the proper part ordered from an appliance parts store. Another part that can go bad is the motor brushes, but that requires that the vacuum be fairly well disassembled. Good luck!
Remove the low voltage wires (top left) if the vac unit still runs the problem is with vacuum if the Vac stops running then there is problem with the low voltage wires in the home possible short some where in the system Chech the inlet doors first. Easy Flo vacuums have a lifetime warranty call 1800 easy Flo.
You have a loose connection at one of several possible locations.Inspect the contacts at the top and bottom of the wand .IF they are black or coppery or look melted, both pairs of contacts, male and female will need to be replaced. Try to wiggle and twist the wand at top, then at bottom. If this does not reveal the short, work your way back down the hose towards the a vac itself, starting behind the hose handle.
It is most likely the switch if you are not getting any continuity to it. the switches on these units are designed to cut power to keep the motor from shorting out. you can get the power switch here for 28.99 less the shipping. http://www.kirbypartstore.com/kiswas.html
it sounds like the spring on the cord reel let go. difficult to reinstall. it may have been broken already and that is why it came off. it is rather meticulous trying to work on a cord reel. many can't be disassembled without breaking
you need either a new nutreal cam bracket assembly, that is what engages and disengages the tech drive.OR to adjust the handle pivot assy- diffucult . this is not for the faint of heart. it is possible to fix them as i used to repair kirbys, however, I remember how frustrating it was to figure out how to disassemble and reassemble them. it is very complicated to a novice. I would recomend having it repaired professionaly. it is possible for a professional to repair it in a very short period of time.
another thing to consider. look on the UNDERSIDE of your Kirby, between the two drive wheels. just in fronnt of the tech drive/nutreal switch. there should be a screw there, tighten that screw up. actually tighten all of them. on My generation 3 the center screw came loose and it would not go in to drive and it would make an aweful clatter. hope this was helpful
