Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

No audio on computer.

I had a computer crash a few days ago, and had to reinstall Windows XP with the emergency disk that came with the computer. However, now I don't have any audio coming out of my computer. I also have a monitor (Extreme brand) that has built in speakers. I also tried downloading the sound drivers from the disk that came with the computer, but I haven't been able to download the sound drivers. I think my motherboard is an Asus motherboard with an onboard sound card.

I also see that when I click on the Control Panel under Sounds and Devices and then Properties, and then click on Hardware, it shows that I have Legacy Audio Drivers. When I click on the Properties tab, the window that comes up says that the Legacy Audio Driver is working properly. The only thing that I can hear, is the annoying 'beep' whenever I perform a task, such as deleting e-mail or other tasks. Do I need to 'update' the Legacy Audio Driver? Finally, I also can't play any music CD's on my computer, becuase when I do, the Windows Media Player tells me that I don't have a 'sound device' installed on the computer when I know that I do have one since I was able to play all kinds of music before the computer crash! Anyway
I don't know what else to do, can you help? Thank you very much!

Thanks for the help, but I tried reinstalling the sound drivers that came with the computer. However, for whatever reason, the sound drivers didn't work. I don't know what else to do. Can I reinstall the sound drivers by just putting in the CD that has the drivers on it? Thanks!

Hi, I bought a laptop from a dealer, 8 years ago. It had a Vista windows on. When it crashed a few days ago, I realized I did not get a windows and word C.D. with it, it was loaded on to my laptop....

The key at the bottom is likely to be an OEM key and will only work with an OEM disk. You can contact the dealer and they should provide you with the disk, or even better a restore disk. Failing that you'll have to procure one, legally!

PC crashes when i switch user

reboot to safe mode using f8 right before the windows logo screen at boot comes on. after on this, run a virus and spyware removal program. i recommend www.superantispyware.com for this.

this problem is mostlikely due to a virus or spyware. If all else fails, put your windows xp cd in and when this loads, select install windows then let it detect installed windows. select "repair" as your option for a repair reinstall, this will fix damaged or mising windows files.

Is the disk you have xp pro? If not, just do the xp home or whatever is on the disk. You may have to format your hard drive to clear it to accept the windows. Get plenty of advise before you do anything permanent like formating your hard drive. Get any factory disks that you can that will have your bios on them.

Cannot get windows xp back on to my computer.

Assuming the computer has a Microsoft XP product code tag on it (so you can be legit & legal), see if you can borrow an XP installation CD from a friend.

Sometimes the reinstall is set up on a separate partition on the hard disk, which of course, is totally useless if the hard drive has failed in a catastrophic way.

You could also contact Packard Bell (I thought this company was history), to see if replacement disk(s) are available. Have your computer's Model & Serial handy. The disks won't be free, but likely much less than a Walmart etc, supplied edition.

Service pack3 crashed puter - after reinstall machine thinks extra hard drive is a disk drive.

You can get to the BIOS by hitting DEL or F2 at start up.

However, that does not have anything to do with a drive letter.

Drive letter designation is set in
START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>COMPUTER MANAGEMENT>DISK MANAGEMENT.

Hope this helps.

Dll files

I had the same problem. What I did was instert my xp disk then when you load up go to install windows. It will eitehr ask you to install a new copy or repair your copy, repair..you will have to reenter your product code, but it will reinstallyour dlls without losing all of your information. OTherwise backup all info you want to a disk, format and reinstall a fresh copy.

Make sure you get rid of the virus first though.
