Question about Audio Cards

1 Answer

No audio on computer.

I had a computer crash a few days ago, and had to reinstall Windows XP with the emergency disk that came with the computer. However, now I don't have any audio coming out of my computer. I also have a monitor (Extreme brand) that has built in speakers. I also tried downloading the sound drivers from the disk that came with the computer, but I haven't been able to download the sound drivers. I think my motherboard is an Asus motherboard with an onboard sound card.

I also see that when I click on the Control Panel under Sounds and Devices and then Properties, and then click on Hardware, it shows that I have Legacy Audio Drivers. When I click on the Properties tab, the window that comes up says that the Legacy Audio Driver is working properly. The only thing that I can hear, is the annoying 'beep' whenever I perform a task, such as deleting e-mail or other tasks. Do I need to 'update' the Legacy Audio Driver? Finally, I also can't play any music CD's on my computer, becuase when I do, the Windows Media Player tells me that I don't have a 'sound device' installed on the computer when I know that I do have one since I was able to play all kinds of music before the computer crash! Anyway
I don't know what else to do, can you help? Thank you very much!

Thanks for the help, but I tried reinstalling the sound drivers that came with the computer. However, for whatever reason, the sound drivers didn't work. I don't know what else to do. Can I reinstall the sound drivers by just putting in the CD that has the drivers on it? Thanks!

My system suddnely correpted so i reinstall my system once i reinstall my system no sonds come there i think sound card is missed so please help me

I had the same trouble a few weeks ago on my Dell Dimension desktop computer. I tried everything. As a last resort, I went to the Dell internet site, put in my model number, downloaded the driver, then it all worked perfectly. I worked for about 3 days before I did that. Even the resource disk didn't have the drivers I needed. I'm sure that Acer would do the same for you.

I cant get no sound or anything since i repaired windows xp with my operating disk

When you reinstall windows with your operating system disk, the next step is to re install all of the driver files to make things work, like the sound, the network, video, etc..
A good place to start is to see if you have a driver disk from when you bought the computer. If you don't have a disk, the manufacturer's web site usually has a link to support/driver files.

Audio video doesnt play smooth, it's jittery. cpu usage of player goes 40-60%. windows xp prof service pack 3. all acer travelmate audio video drivers. acer travelmate 4000 notebook

Does this happen only when viewing online audio/video, as opposed to inserting a music-CD into your CD-drive, and using Windows Media Player to play the music?

If so, then how fast is your Internet connection?
It probably is too slow to download and play at the same time.
So, when you click on a YouTube video, click "pause",
and let the download proceed for a minute or two,
and then click "play", to play what has been downloaded.

After reinstalling my sound did not effect.

Re-Install the drivers from the system disk that came with your computer. If no disk, go to the website and download the drivers for your model computer.
