USB DEvice not recognized

Hi,
I have a gateway m320 laptop with xp professional sp2 OS. It was working fine since i bought it 2 years ago. Last month onwards it doesn't recognize any usb devices whenever i plugin. I have lot of info stored on my external hard disk & flash drive too which i am feeling difficult to go through. I tried lot of options mentioned to solve the error but all of them failed. I would appreciate if any one could help me out to solve this error.

Thanks

    Hello faizakhatib,

I assume you've tried all the USB ports on your laptop and that you're connecting to ea. port directly (rather than through a hub). If not, please, do this so that we can eliminate as many variables as possible.

I'm sure you've done this already but please, connect only one USB device at a time for now. Un-powered USB devices require power from the computer's USB interface to run. We don't want to complicate the issue w/ too great a load on available USB power.

    Please, answer the following questions:

    (01) What steps you have taken thus far to trouble-shoot this issue?

    (02) What is the make and model of your laptop?

    (03) Is the external USB hard drive you're attempting to connect to your laptop powered?

    (04) Have you checked the Windows XP DEVICE MANAGER for any errors on the USB devices?

(please, let us know if you're unsure how to do this.)

    Thank you

    BJ

My apologies faizakhatib. I see that you did, indeed, provide the make and model of you laptop. Thank you for that.

Some additional suggestions:
(A) Please, make sure that your laptop's A/C adapter is plugged in while trouble-shooting this issue. We don't want to complicate the matter w/ a possible low-power issue.

(B) Worse case, your laptop's USB interface may have failed (hardware failure). To repair this would necessitate replacing your motherboard. You can work around this issue, however, by using a laptop PC card w/ USB ports.

Please, get back to us w/ your answers and we'll work w/ you to diagnose this issue.

Thank you,
BJ

Hi, my USB ports just stopped working three days ago. And it seems that I cant even upgrade the BIOS.... SOS

I will be very surprised if there is a BIOS problem. More likely to be either a driver problem or a power problem.

Always get your drivers from the manufacturer of your Laptop, Notebook or Desktop.

If you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, usually one is able to download if available, by model number, All available Driver downloads as required.

If the driver is not available, perhaps your manufacturer does not support the OS you are installing.

This is the best way of ensuring up to date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!

There are no XP drivers to be found with Microsoft as XP is no longer supported.

Some manufacturers may have a limited number of Drivers still listed.

I hope this helps.

I bought a Gateway M320 Notebook from pawn shop it worked fine. My 8 yr old played with it and now it wont boot up Windows XP say NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND

Hello, just make sure you haven't got a floppy diskette or cd loaded as it may be trying to boot from one of these instead of the hard drive. Regards, nicam49

Acer 4736 compatibility with eb-s6 projector in usb display mode.

Check the Microsoft knowledge base for a "workaround" for this issue.
Try doing a search for "device not recognized" there should be several steps to correct this issue. However this may be due to compatibility with your projector and the usb port drivers. Contact the manufacturer or go to his website for driver and usb information on your Projector ability to connect to your Acer. Good luck!

Bluetooth device not detected in aspire 4710G

hi thanks for using fixya!

As I wanted to provide suggestions to you, but on this case, I will suggest if you can bring your laptop to a service center and have it fixed. There are so many reasons why it is not working properly and some errors within. It could help a lot if you will bring it and a service technician will see it personally.

Regards!

Laptop Mousepad and Keyboard stuttering, slow

This may be a battery power monitor issue. Try disabling the "Mircosoft ACPI- Compliant Control Method Battery" device. This is located in Control Panel-->System-->Hardware Tab-->Device Manager-->Batteries. Had similar problem with 2 Acer Aspire series laptops (diff models). 2 and 3 year old. Original batteries (both still hold charges for 1.5 hrs of normal usage). Running WinXP, one with SP2 and other had SP3. Both came in the last month with slow jerky TPAD function and nearly non responsive keyboard access. Checked the usual; virus, spyware, hijacking, driver conflict etc. Cloned drive and factory installed..still same problem with kb & mouse. However an external USB keyboard and mouse functioned normally (no lag). Noticed with Battery removed kb & mouse was normal. Finally found disabling ACPI control battery device resolved this issue while allowing laptop to run on either battery or AC.

2 of 4 USB Ports Not Functioning

Most likely a motherboard problem, though you can try and re-do windows, best bet on getting it all to work is Turn off CPU, Unplug Power cable, And all usb devices, let it sit for about 20mins. Plug it all back in. Turn on the CPU! Though this might really get on your nerves having to do this multiple times, id get a new motherboard.

Laptop Gateway mx8711

Gateway laptop is really ****.
I bought Gateway MX8711 in March 2007, after 6 months i use it...the hard disk failed.
Gateway replaced a new Hitachi hard disk for me but not more than 8 months and it failed again.
Gateway told me that i have no more warranty because the repair warranty is only 90 days.
I bought this laptop and use it not more than 2 years, the hard disk was failed twice.
Usually Hard disk manufacturer provided 3 years warranty for the hard disk. The manufacturer year of the hard disk is May 2007....they should able to help because the har disk not more than a year being used...but they don't. This is really bad customer service and not fair to the buyer.
I will not buy any Gateway products anymore....i swear.

maybe the laptop you bought was made or design only for windows vista, in that case you have to download all the drivers for windows xp if it is available in the internet.
