After refilling the ink tanks on my Canon MP830
printer, an error message appeared on the screen which stated that "the type of print head is incorrect. Please install the correct printhead." The printhead worked perfect before I refilled the tanks. I even put new tanks in. Same results.

You can first try reseting your printer by unplugging all the cords for 30min. and then plug it back.
Please do a deep cleaning, align the print head, and also do a nozzle check. If you still have the problem then replace the print head.

If the simple hard reset procedure above did not work, try the following factory reset procedure.

Start presssing the reset button four times (three in some Pixma model) followed by the power button this should start a factory reset procedure.

If it still sreturn the error message, it will mean that there may be a
real problem wihth the head, then you will need to start doing some
    work on the printer head.

Try removing the head which is easier if you take the cartridges out
first and put them in place it having cleaned the contacts for
    dirt.

If that doesn't work it may be that the waste ink tank is full. Try this:

    1. Turn off printer
    2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
    3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
    4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
    5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
    6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
    7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
    8. Your printer should respond as normal.

    Regards

Well, I gave you the solution, you did not even try, you keep posting the same thing. I know, you refilled the ink cartrigde and damaged your printer head, it happens. For your knowledge, what you refill it is called 'cartridge' The 'ink tamk is inside the printer, in a corner at the backside.
Try the procedure posted above. If you do it properly it should work, providing that you did not destroyed the printer head with a bad hand-refilled cartridge. If it does not work the head must be replaced.
If you do not even know what a printer had , a cartridge or a waste ink tank is, you should not service your own printer . Not even refilling the cartridge.
In your case, unless you can fix this problem with a printer reset, the best solution may be taking the printer to the nearest service point, and having the defective head replaced.

    Best regards

Sorry, I see some sentence in my post could seem a bit rude or drastic, but I am serious about it , a badly refilled cartridridge spilled ink on the head clogging it or damaging it. To clean the head you need to take it out from the printer. It is not too difficult, but always involve risk of causing further damaga if you never serviced a printer. Here is a general procedure for example.

I have an printhead error for no reason. Please advise. The message says "The type of print head is incorrect. Install the correct print head.

There is always a reson. Try checking that the cartridge you installed is the correct one for your printer. Some refurbished also cause this problem as they have been recycled too many times.

I have the error message that it can not recognize the ink cartridge and it is blocking me from using the macine in any function. I have removed the ink cartrdige and it still says it cannot recognize...

An ink tank which has once been empty is
installed. Replace the applicable ink tank with
a new one.
Printing with a once-empty or refilled ink
tank can damage the print head.
If printing is continued without replacing the
refilled ink tank, press the Stop/Reset button
for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a
refilled ink tank.

Message says to install print head and set the ink tank

I'm guessing this MP830 is not brand new so I'm going to get you to reverse the process so we can check what's in there.

1. Remove the cartridges
2. Lift the grey arm on the carriage (the bit that holds the cartridges and printhead)
3. Gently pull the printhead forward and out of the carriage unit

From here on in you need to check that:
a) you have a printhead after all (if you couldn't find a printhead then this explains your problem immediately)
b) the printhead is not soiled on the back where all the electrical contacts are
c) that the carriage unit has all the copper pins in place and none of them are bent, broken off, or otherwise damaged.

If the printhead is missing entirely or simply not responding and there's no problem with the pins in the carriage (#3 above) then the simplest solution is to contact Canon and order a new printhead (ref: QY6-0061). Canon in the USA provide the cheapest printheads and I'm guessing that's where you're based.

Once that arrives, install properly and then you should (hopefully) be good to go... While you're waiting though, I'd recommend putting the orange caps back on the cartridge ink ports to stop them drying out.

Hope that helps.

Blank pages coming out of i850 with new printhead

Alarm / Power light flashes orange 7 times consecutively is a Print head error so it sounds like you did the right thing.

I would reseat the printhead along with each one of the ink cartridges. Make sure that you removed the tape from the bottom of each of the ink cartridges and try it again. After installing the new printhead, you should have run a printhead cleaning cycle immediately after installing.

Issue: Certain colors are missing or no ink prints on the paper
Solution: Install / replace the recommended ink tanks correctly i550 / i850

Untitled Document How to install / replace the ink tanks
The ink tanks suitable for the printer are as follows;

Black Ink Tank BCI-3eBK
Cyan Ink Tank BCI-3eC
Magenta Ink Tank BCI-3eM
Yellow Ink Tank BCI-3eY

Note: There are two ink tank label designs.
Operation procedures are shown with label design A.

labelsa.jpg Replacement Procedure

1. Check that the printer is powered on, and open the front cover. Wait until the print head moves to the center.

2. Remove the empty ink tank by pushing the tab on the ink tank.

Note: When doing this, do not remove the print head. When replacing multiple ink tanks, it is recommended to replace one at a time to avoid inserting them into the wrong slots.
(The image is an example using i850.)

removingtank850.jpg
3. Remove the new ink tank from its package. Pull the orange tape in the direction of the arrow to remove it completely, and remove the shrink-wrap film.

Note: Remove the orange tape completely. If the tape remains, printing may not be performed properly.

removingtape.jpg
Confirm that the orange tape is completely removed from the ink tank, as shown in image 1. If the tape is similar to the sample in image 2, remove the remaining portion of the tape so that it looks like the sample shown in image 1.

orangetape.jpg
(1): Correct

(2): Incorrect (where the arrow indicates)
4. Slowly twist the orange protective cap in the direction that the arrow indicates, and remove it. To avoid ink adhering to your fingers, brace the orange protective cap while removing it.

5. Insert the new ink tank to the print head by holding it at a slight angle.

Note: Confirm that the ink tanks are installed in the right order according to the labels on the print head.
inkorder.jpg
6. Press down on the top of the ink tank until a click sound is made.

7. Close the front cover. The next time the printer performs printing, it will automatically start print head cleaning. The power lamp will flash while cleaning is performed. Until cleaning completes, do not perform other operations.

Error: The type of Printhead is incorrect, Install the correct printhead.

Ok i know this is kinda old, but i found a solution.

First to those people to state I found a solution from hp, cannon etc etc and not give out the direct link, or instructions, then whats the point fing posting????

This error happens when you install an oem cartridge onto your system. Or havent used it in a while, so the machine is somehow misfigured.

This solution is for canon mp800, simply switch off printer. HOLD stop/reset and press and HOLD on/off button. release stop/reset. Now press stop.reset twice. then release on/off button, press stop/reset 4 times, wait 20 seconds, press on/off button twice.

switch machine back on and the printer should find the cartridges.

This method maybe the same for your mp*** if not google RESET CANON PRINTER MP*** and you'll find the correct buttons to press.

here's a printer on reseting a bunch of canon printers http://tricks-collections.com/reset-printer-canon-mp140-mp160-mp180-mp210-mp220-mp460-mp470-mp500-mp510-mp530-mp600-mp610-mp800-mp820-mp810-mp830-mp960-mp970/

good luck.. and FU canon for adding you scamming chips into cartridges.
