Handset reset / re-registration problem (by 3 users)

posted by Winstorm on Apr 02, 2008

Motorola E51 MD7161-3 5.8 GHz Quad Cordless Phone (base unit with 3 handsets) no longer detecting handsets. The handsets suddenly stopped working and continuously displayed "SEARCHING" and/or "CHARGING". Attempts to reset and de-register / re-register as suggested by Motorola's Online Tech Support barely succeeded only for a while but ultimately failed. De-registration resulted in the handsets all displaying "ENTER BASE ID" continuously despite repeated entry of the correct Base ID. The problem seems to be in the Base unit's recognition circuitry because the message answering system still works fine, handsets are lit up o.k., keypads work normally, etc. In fact, one of the handsets was detected and worked for a while after persistently entering the base ID within a 2-day period. Then another handset was detected and worked briefly after another 2 days of persistent entry of the base ID. However, once the AC power and handset batteries were removed in an attempt to relocate the system to see if that would help then all handsets just display "ENTER BASE ID" continuously. The message answering system still works as usual without any problems, though. I really would like to get this system working again because it's got just the features I need. However, if all else fails, then I am looking at online reviews of the new Panasonic DECT 6.0 KX-TG9332 or KX-TG8232B and will consider one as a replacement.

Can you offer any new solution for the Motorola E51 MD7161-3 problem? If none, have you reviewed the new Panasonic DECT 6.0 KX-TG9332 or KX-TG8232B yet and would you recommend either one?

In the middle of a conversation, the handset just goes dead and "searching" appears in the screen apparently looking for the base. Leave it alone for a while and then it is fine again. That is, until next time.

The problem happens with ALL 3 handsets and seems to be more of a problem for conversations lasting more than 10 min.

I'm having the same problem with a single handset - let it go "dead" for too long, and it continually prompts for the base id number no matter the number of times the base id is entered.... help!
