Spin and then stop and alarm

(1) If the washer won't spin, the clutch assembly might be worn out. The clutch assembly makes the connection between the transmission and the inner tub. It is designed to allow the tub to get up to the proper spin speed gradually. As the clutch wears out it may prevent the tub from spinning. The clutch is not repairable, if it is loud or not working properly it will need to be replaced
(2) If the drive belt is faulty or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin properly and could cause the machine to stop.

The clutch assembly is stuck although the cluthch

It sounds like the Spinner Shaft Coupler is severely rusted into the Clutch One-Way Roller clutches bearing in the Clutch Pulley and the Spinner Shaft. And if your machine is using the Upper One-Way Roller clutches bearing ring that may be severely rusted to the Spinner Shaft also.

Did you read my Clutch Fix post to disassemble and remove the clutch pulley assembly?

As you can see it’s a tight work area. You may have to rotate the Outer Tub out of the machine to ease removal. I suspect you could have a Tub Seal leak issue. I would lay the machine on it’s back protecting the drain hose exit and tap lightly with a hammer and see if you can free.

Fav6800aw leaks water from clutch

I believe you may have a Tub Seal Leak you will need to remove the Outer Tub to start of the repair process for a Tub Seal replacement. I would start by removing the clutch I feel the water will coming down the Spinner Assembly support and or the agitator shaft driving the transmission.
See this post Clutch Fix for removing the clutch and inspecting and re-lube of the One-Way Roller clutches bearing. You will find links to the Service Manual at that post.
Read this post1 and this post2 for removing the Outer Tub Bearings and seals and special tool to remove Spinner Assembly. No doubt this is a big job but other DIY’ers have done if you can tolerate the down time.
I feel repair cost will trigger a washer replacement if a DIY fix is not an option for you.
I’m an owner not a repair person but have some hands on with the FAV6800A and have helped owners/repair folks out with FAV9800A LCD version of this machine…..Rich

Spin cycle is of balance

Did you follow my post at this link Clutch repair post for your repair ?
I’m a little confused by this description “”there is what seams to be a sealed plastic ring on the top of the stainless drum is there suppose to be liquid in it there is a liquid in there””.
Maybe go to and look at the exploded view and give me a p/n.
“”I had to replace the top bearing on the "drive shaft" it was making alot of noise the cluth assembly seamed ok but still kicks out on spin cycle””
Are you saying you replaced the upper One-Way Roller clutch bearing assembly only? If so that tells me you purchased the whole clutch assembly. I know of no parts supplier that sells the upper One-Way Roller clutch bearing assembly alone. We Are talking about a FAV6800A machine correct? To make sure I’m following here is the clutch parts view.
Here is pic of the same clutch causing dC errors prior to clean up.

Upper One-Way Roller clutch bearing
Is this the part you speak of ""I had to replace the top bearing on the "drive shaft" it was making alot of noise the cluth assembly seamed ok but still kicks out on spin cycle""
If we are talking about a FAV6800A or FAV9800A I can help you.

I have taken my Maytag Neptune-TL washer apart(model FAV6800AWW). The machine did not spin dry anymore do to the roll clutch bearings being frozen. When I knocked out the roll clutch bearings, I did not...

Hello datil7772 ,

Did you see this post? My series 16 machine did not use the upper bearing ring. What is 1st two digits of your serial number.

I believe that bearing ring is a plain bearing ring not a One-Way Roller clutch bearing as is in the Clutch Pulley. I refer to it as One-Way roller clutch but I believe I’m wrong can you confirm?

Any way the ears on that upper ring should go up into the tub slots in the bottom of the wash tub. I would be concerned about the reliability of you Clutch you may want to replace it. The post above has the clutch I recommend and the supplier with the best price. I also describe reassembly of the clutch in the machine. Good luck back and post back if
you have questions…… Rich

Info from the above post;
Reinstalling the Clutch Pulley assembly is the most difficult part of the process. With a tight work area try a test fitment of seating (if used) the Upper Roller Clutch bearing with the notches into the bottom of the wash tub. Then insert the Spinner Shaft Coupler into that bearing rotating CW to reseat the coupler notches to the spinner shaft. Then the clutch pulley to the squared end agitator shaft. Rock back and forth the clutch pulley assembly with upward lifting pressure to reseat the clutch assembly. When the clutch assembly is properly seated you will feel a 1/16-1/8" gap between the Pulley face and shaft end as mentioned and shown on page 47 of the SM. On reinstallation, tighten Clutch Pulley bolt CCW to 96” pounds 8’ foot pounds (Snug no torque wrench required).

Model FAV6800AWW will not pump water out if clothes are in machine but if I take out clothes, the water pump comes on and the machine pumps out water and spins. Codes DC and UC come on when it it is time...

I’m an owner of the machine and know it quite well. If the One-Way roller clutches in the clutch pulley hub and the upper roller clutch assembly (if your series use’s it) can be cleaned up and re-lubed you can be back in service today. See this post Clutch Fix. My roller clutches failed at the 3.5yr mark Dec 08 causing dc/UC errors for any size load. I cleaned up and re-lubed and it worked fine. I replaced the clutch to try this clutch assembly back in Feb 08 25001169 to see if it would work it does and I recommend it to all owners for your and mine FAV6800AW and the LCD flavor of this machine the FAV9800AW. The clutch will work for all series of those machines. If you have basic mechanical skills and want to save money try to clean up the roller clutches and re-lube or replace for $60. If you call in a repair service I think you will be in the $300 range to repair. I have changed my nickname from dh1200s to FAV9800AWDIY I have many postings on the clutch subject at this site and where my Clutch Fix posting has been posted for these machines.

Good Luck and post back if you need help to DIY. …. Rich

Same issue, wondering if I can replace the clutch myself?

Hello kj_jung,
Good for you to DIY the clutch replacement. I assume you are taking dc/UC errors in spin cycle. I have put together a step by step process which some pic’s. A number of folks have tried the process with success. Take a look at this post and save yourself some money. I did not need to replace my clutch just a WD-40 clean up and re-lube of the One-way Roller clutch bearing. I did replace the clutch with this Clothes Washer Clutch - 25001169 clutch just to see if it would work several months ago to possibly offer folks a better cost replacement for the clutch. It works fine, AZ just raised the price from $48 to the current price. APP has the clutch for about the same price. While you are waiting for the clutch try to clean up the One-way Roller clutch bearing and re-lube to get back in service. It's good practice. I'm an owner like you with an my front cover removed can remove replace the clutch in 5 to 7 minutes. When I first tried this it took me 20 minutes and the clutch spun off. I detail what the SM speaks of in getting the clutch pully seated properly. As I state in that post you don't need a torque wrench, just seat the clutch properly and snug the clutch pulley 3/8" bolt.
My repair process for clutch maintenance/replacement was hosted also on this respected DIY forum I was helping a forum member on that site with a FAV9800AW clutch issue for the famous dc/UC errors in spin cycle.
Post back if you have questions and Good Luck. Rich

Neptune Washer Clutch/spinner failure

Take a look thru this post and see if it the SM and Sears Parts direct link will help you. I have some pic’s of the clutch and a step by step to process to remove and replace the clutch in the FAV6800AW machine. I’m an owner like you not a repair person. I’m not sure what the repair service is calling spinner bearings. I believe they are referring to the roller clutch bearing assembly. If you are not leaking water on the clutch (Tub seal issue) I would drop the clutch out inspect and go from there. Are you throwing any error codes to the console such as “dc” or “UC” in the spin cycle of the wash cycle The repair service seems to be going in the right direction did you get a $350+ quote to repair? Does the machine spin dry the clothes to hang dry/dryer ready OK? I feel you have nothing to lose if you want to try a DIY fix and I will help as much as I can. Rich

GE Prodigy Washing machine making clunking noise

One common problem area is the clutch assembly. The clutch is built on top of the motor, the motor drives the clutch and the clutch assembly drives the rest of the washer. The clutch gets very noisy when parts inside are worn out. The shoes lining that drives the inner drum of the clutch wear off and you will get a metal on metal sound. Clutches often can be rebuilt, but sometimes they are too worn and replacing the whole clutch is the best repair. Please use this link here for clutch replace and repair info. The belt and pump may be the next items to check for noises. How to access the washer. Clutch repair help.

Machine stopping mid-cycle

f your washer doesn't spin or agitate on either the delicate or regular cycle, check these:

Selector switch
Clutch assembly
Drive motor
Selector switch If your washer has a selector switch on the control panel, make sure the button for your selection is pressed all the way in, or set properly.

Clutch assembly Many GE®/Hotpoint® washers use a clutch and an automatic shift lever. This assembly is quite complicated. If there's a problem with it, you probably should contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Drive motor Many washing machines have multiple-speed drive motors. Though it's uncommon, the drive motor may work fine on one speed but not on another. If the drive motor has failed on one speed, you need to replace the entire motor.
