Believe it is convergence also. Turn on set and the colors RGB are split up showing 3 different pictures in red, green, and blue. Can it be easily fixed? If convergence chip where do I find one and for how much? How difficult to replace?

I have tried this replacement on philips 43 inch. convergence ic part # is STK-392-120. it is mounted on a big heatsink, replace this 2 IC at one time. soldering is not difficult. 1. you need desoldering tool (**** type) 2. soldering iron of 40W 3. and silicon grease for greater transfer between IC body and heatsink. i bought that personally in asia for less than 50USD on two IC with same part # . let me know if there is any other thing i can do.

Cannot adjust horizontal blue convergence on WS 55857

You still have bad grounds on the ICs. Or maybe the solder has fused another pin. If not bad grounds on the ICs you have missed them elsewhere...Really concentrate and look for these bad grounds and check your caps with a cap check. And power resistors too!!!!!

Your TV most likely a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

If you know how to solider you can fix this yourself with no new parts.

The convergence chip is becoming desoldered from the board. If you check hometheaterspot.com's Mits forum they have very detailed info on how to fix this.

Your problem is the convergence IC'S. They have STK ###-### the # are numbers. You can get parts at http://partstore.com. If your not a tech and an experimenter or a handi person Pease be aware of the hi voltage inside these sets. Also be aware your going to need to unsolder and resolder the ICs in and from the printed circuit board. Good Luck
