Hi,
I have 2 PSS120 players and love them. I also use them with Vista but you need to download free software Shogbox Buddy This software is so easy to use and works with Vista. It enables loading the mp3 files and creates playlists.

I have not found a way to upgrade the firmware using Vista. But the players are in use every day.
Hope this helps

There is not Vista compatible software for this device, and Philips does not plan on developing it. Don't fret - this device has another problem even for XP users --> the Musicmatch service that was tied to this player was discontinued on aug 31, 2007. So you would have been screwed either way.

Hello,

Looks like the player's functions have been deranged after it's been formatted.
Upgrade the firmware by using the PSS Device Manager.
Go to the support site for downloading and installing this device manager onto your computer.
http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=PSS110/37&slg=en&scy=US
To get to the download for the firmware upgrade
open the link in a new page and
accept the End User License Agreement ( EULA )

Install the upgrade onto your computer and follow the steps.

Philips pss110/05 problem connect to computer

This model is completely incompatible with Vista, and your problem ultimately will probably not be solvable.

Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
Try another USB port
Reset the player

If that fails:
Download the newest version of the Philips Device Manager:
www.usasupport.philips.com - change your country/language as needed
Enter in your exact model #
Click on the link for your exact model #
Click on the Software & Drivers section
Click on "Firmware Upgrade Software"
Install the new Device Manager
Open and run the "Repair" tab

If still nothing:
Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

Pss110/5 system problem

The PSS110 is not fully compatible with Vista.

You can download the Philips Device Manager for the PSS110 from:

http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?scy=GB&slg=ENG&cat=MP3_PLAYERS_CA&sct=SHOQBOX_SU&session=20080627080823_82.5.154.61&grp=PORTABLE_ENTERTAINMENT_GR&ctn=PSS110/05&mid=Link_Software&hlt=Link_Software

The software is not Vista compatible so you will have to run it on an XP machine.

Run the Device Manager and select the repair option. This will update the firmware and replace the system files.

Make sure the player is connected to the mains during this process.

Use the Philips Device Manager

Windows Vista

The PSS110 software does not work with Vista, and there is no driver update.

The only way to use the PSS110 is on another XP system.

Hi tere

You need to use Musicmatch Jukebox. This player also needs Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10 to work.
It is not compatible with Windows Media Player 11. If you have version 11 you will need to uninstall 11 to roll back to 10.

You can download the CD content here:

http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?scy=GB&slg=ENG&cat=MP3_PLAYERS_CA&sct=SHOQBOX_SU&grp=PORTABLE_ENTERTAINMENT_GR&session=20080402051549_86.153.215.238&ctn=PSS110/05&mid=Link_Software&hlt=Link_Software

Sounds like the system files have been deleted.

Assuming you have Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10, install and run the Philips Device Manager from the product CD.
Select the Repair / Restore option and follow the on-screen prompts. This will format the player, and re-load the missing system files.

This unit is not compatible with Windows Vista.

If you have Windows Media Player 11, then uninstall it to roll back to version 10.

Hi

Make sure you are using Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10.

Also make sure you have installed Musicmatch Jukebox from the product CD.

The PSS110 is not compatible with Vista or Media Player 11.

If you have Media Player 11, then uninstall it, to roll back to version 10.

Also, you need to make sure the player is showing as "GoGear" and not "Removable Drive".
If Musicmatch shows the player as "Removable Drive", go into the options menu and click devices. Click the dropdown menu showing "removable drive", and select "GoGear"
You will also need to run the Philips Device manager and Restore the player, to delete the tracks which the player hasn't seen.
