Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

LG MS-283MCG Microwave - had a fault when we first bought it, engineer replaced an internal fuse. Stopped working again years ago in the same way, been sitting in a cupboard since then. Hardly used since purchase, don't really want to throw it away but it's obviously out of warranty. Is this something that's well known & if so, is it replacable by an amateur?

Microwaves usually have a small ceramic fuse inside. White with metal caps about 1 inch long. You can change it yourself but please follow these rules:

  • Always make sure the unit is unplugged when doing this.
  • Replace the fure with the same type of fuse. Don't use a glass fuse if the original is ceramic.
Other than that, I hope that fixed ya...

No power to the microwave, after storm.

The low voltage brownout let the oven draw too much current, and likely an internal fuse failed. Typically after removing a dozen Philips screws you can take off the cover and locate the fuse, which you can match and replace. [If it still has "power" (like the lights come on) but has stopped heating, then it could be any number of other issues (main capacitor fail, etc)] I've changed a fuse or two in my day, and years ago a failed capacitor, with success.

My LG over the range microwave and vent stopped working. The outlet it's plugged into is fine.

it may be an internal fuse that popped. try a lamp or something in the outlet. if that's ok, it's probably a fuse inside the microwave.

My model nn-p295wf microwave stopped working ,all power just stopped, about a year ago. I took it to a repair shop and they replaced the DIODE and the fuse, then it worked again. Afew weeks ago it happened...

Replace the magnetron, safety fuse and diode as a set and check the door interlock switches.
That should get it working for another year or so.
Don't forget microwave mains fuses are special sand filled and semisurge type.

No heat

it could be the magnatron is faulty or it could also be the highvoltage fuse is faulty, i would quote the parts at $70 and the labouar at roughly $50-$60, all depends on the unit itself.i would love to help but i live in nsw australia.but i hope what i have told helps somehow.

The model is a H5972N0GB/01 and it is approx 3 yrs old, no problem for the first 2 years .Time to write to Neff -is yours the same model?

Yes, there should be a ceramic (tubular) fuse under the cover on the top side where the power comes into the microwave.

Russell hobs microwave oven

I am a recently retired appliance engineer of 20 years, microwaves are not normally things worked on yourself, i would be reluctant to help normally but yes there is an internal fuse ( a special quick blow type )just inside where the wire enters the cabinet on a small circuit board, if a replacement is needed it must be exact match bought from an electronic shop, microwaves are dangerous they store powerful electric and can still shock after removing the plug, if the replacement fuse blows, there is a fault elsewhere, and i do not recommend further self repair, work with safety
