Power supply works but pc doesn't power up no lights and fans dont work

Have you checked the power supply in different system? If yes then first replace CMOS battery and switch the CMOS battery jumper. And while doing this please unplug the hard disk or optical drive data cables and power. If it does not work then check the power switch is working or not or it is perfectly connected with the front panel PINS on the motherboard. If it is not connected perfectly computer will not start after pressing power button.
Second Level Test : Remove the CPU Fan - replace the CPU perfectly - again place the Fan.

Third Level (motherboard test): Just take the motherboard removing CPU,RAM, SMPS - use another same type CPU, RAM and SMPS - if it does not work so it is motherboard problem. If it works may be CPU problem.

Blank screen on start up

Try removing all cards with the exception of the video. Remove all memory leaving (1) to boot from.
Disconnect power and reset the processor.
If you have a boot disk or copy of XP on disk, try to boot from the CD or DVD.
If the unit boots at all the problem may be the HD.
If not try downloading the BIOS update for your chipset.
Remove all extra drive, like secondary CD or DVD drives, Floppy or Zip drives.
You may have burnt the processor but I don’t think so.
Power supply is OK or you would not power up. Their are 3 or 4 supply voltages from supply, +- 12 volts, +- 5 volts and +-3.3 volts.
You may have a secondary 12 volt 4-pin plug but that is for on board video.
Try a boot disk and flash your BIOS, if you can.
Hope this helps.

No display by gigabyte GA8i915me motherboard

It sounds like your CPU might be overgeating. Check the CPU heatsink fan to see if it is spinning. Also, make sure that you clean out any dust, as this can lead to overheating also.

GA-7VRX Motherboard won't boot

Hi sebaswis, am I correct that this Gigabyte GA-7VRX is a replacement MB? (I read your other posted questions). http://www.fixya.com/support/t1399506-computer_boot_when_power You mentioned you put your old system back together & it worked fine. If mother board is shorted to the system case you will see the CPU fan spin for a second. Most motherboards use a green led which represents there is stand-by power running to the board.(This is normal). I am unsure why your led is orange. (Its not mentioned in your manual & manual does not show the led?s location). Was the other GA-7VRX MB led always orange or was it also green? Suggest you disassemble the heat-sink from the CPU. You mentioned you installed a new XP 2500+ CPU. If a pin on the CPU was bent during installation of CPU into the socket or if no thermal grease was applied or too little to the top of CPU, either would give you: CPU fan spins for a second & nothing else seems to run. Look over the link provided below. It is a guide to how to install a motherboard. (You may not need this but Its worth going over all the steps). http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/145 As far as the power supply. If the MB's are the same (GA-7VRX) & the old system ran with 220W, the newer one should also function. Clarify these questions for me sebaswis. Mike

Pc boots and stays on the black screen at the start

Try getting into the BIOS and making sure that it is detecting the RAM and HDD and Processor. Typically this happens when theres no memory or a memory problem. If its the Hard drive it will say NTLDR missing or Hard Drive failure. When its blank.

Does the Hard drive fire up when its sitting there? Does it seem like it booting the Hard drive or does it just sit there.

Also, if you have an onboard Video and a video card, try using just the onboard video for now, sometimes the Video card can cause an issue if it doesnt have drivers and comes up blank.

Make sure the bios has the video set to PCI or AGP depending which you have intstall. Or Auto if it has it.

I have had two Gigabyte board and im using one now and have had similar issues that where caused by a ATI video card.

Good luck and let me know if you still need help.

Please help

The first time I installed a new motherboard I did not realize there were two power cables, one has a small square connector and the other a long rectangular connector. Did you connect both power cables?
