Mute signal for car hifi

Hello!
My car radio has no mute function but the phonemute. Now I want to put in a button to activate the phonemute without connecting a phone to the radio. Can anyone tell me what kind of signal the radio needs? Is it just 12V DC on the phonemute connector?
Thanks for your help

    Hello.

it wasnt clear for us. Both 12v and ground may connected to mute line? or musn't? I read somewhere that car kit just sends a signal impulse when rings and after disconnection.

Try applying either 12v dc or ground via a 10 kohm resistor - the resistor should prevent too much current flowing.

How does the mute function work on the Kenwood KDC-5043U. Where do I connect the brown mute wire? I have a Samsung Galaxy S5

If you were installing a separate hands-free phone kit along with the Kenwood head unit, you'd connect the Kenwood mute wire to the muting output on the hands-free kit. This allows the other device to mute the audio from your radio while you're using the phone. If you don't have a hands-free kit, you wouldn't connect the Kenwood's mute wire to anything at all.

Hu functioning but no audio. mute button is on screen but wont un-mute

I'd check for a physically stuck button - or disconnect the 12 volt power from the radio completely for several minutes. Reconnect and try again.

Deh1500 no sound

no mute button, but if there is a short in one of the speakers, wire touching, contacts touching metal, the radio will go in to protect, and you will loose all sound. best way to trouble shoot is to disconnect the speakers, and hook one good speaker to the radio, if you have sound, connect one speaker in the car at a time to the radio, until you find the bad one.

How to mute the radio

Here is the link for the user manual for the arx 4570 which is similar; (sorry exact model manual not available that i could find) http://www.clarion.com/us/en/MungoBlobs/704/514/ARX4570(Manual).pdf For this model - the only ways you can mute it are by using the mute button on the set or on the remote control. Hope this helps - please ask again if not :)
