Question about Intel Motherboard

How do I get com1-3-5 back on my computer after a complete re-load of w98se

Greetings!
I recently reloaded w98se-I have to use this os because I have older ham radio H/W that uses drivers written for w98se.
When I brought up the computer after the reload, I had com1 and 2 on the mobo. I then added an SIIG PCI fast serial/parallel card and rebooted. What I ended up with was a com1-2-3 with the added card as com 3. Now my understanding is that com 2 pretty much uses the same resources as com 1. I need 3 "unsharing " com ports. So, I went in to bios and diabled com 2 ,then rebooted. The add-on card was installed as com 2 and com 3 was gone. Some how, I think there was an installation floppy with the add-on card but I cannot find it. I did all this the first time many years ago so I may be wrong, but for years, I had a com1-3-5 setup with the SIIG card installing as com 3 the mobo com ports as com 1 and com 5. I sure would love to get back to that configuration.
Thanks
Bill G.
ps there are no jumpers on the SIIG card.

Why is it that my PC (desktop) encountered suddenly shutdown? WINDOWS HAS RECOVERED UNEXPECTED SHUTDOWN Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 L

You say Windows, but not which version. Regardless, the "blue screen of d??th" is a mighty frustrating issue. There are ways that can help isolate the cause, but they are complex and require additional software. The two things that most often cause crashes are intermittent hardware faults and defective or incompatible drivers. Check to see if you have recently updated and of the component drivers. If so, use the "rollback" feature to go back to the previous driver and see if that helps. Unfortunately, often the only way to solve these problems is to reload the OS. If you can still access your system, now is a good time to back up all your data that you don't want to lose in case the system crashes hard and you need to reformat and reload.

Factory restore the desktop?

If you are asking to format and reload the original OS for the computer you'll need the OS install disks. If you are trying to just reset the desktop back to a default state you can do that in the control panel; just create a new user and that profile will start with all of the default settings.

Most restore disks are designed to work only with the ORIGINAL equipment. If you had replaced the motherboard with an identical unit the disks would have worked. But you used different board with different drivers, etc. What you can do is using another computer you can backup the files on your hard drive to a usb stick and then reload the hard drive with your OS of choice , load your programs and then transfer over your backed up files on the usb stick.

MSI P965 Pt Continually re-boots on start-up

You don't say exactly at what point in the boot sequence the system crashed and restarts. Many things could be at work here. You say you are using the HDD from the previous system. Did you swap this drive straight out and are still using the OS load from the previous system? Windows loads drivers at startup based upon the hardware installed. If you are using and old WIndows load with a new mainboard, this could be the entire cause of your crashes. YOu may be able to get to SAGE mode and remove the old drivers and try to restart the system, but from experience I will tell you that to get the best results when installing a new mainboard, you should reload the OS from the original OS disk, and then load the new mainboard drivers.

Remove all extra hardware(any video cards specially) from the PC. Do a check disk of "c" drive. Are u sure that u are virus free? After all that reload your O, if you still get the same message then probably its time to change you MB.

Have you tried any other USB devices ? Did you load your motherboard USB drivers

usually the steps for installing a usb printer is to load the drivers, and then you will be prompted to
plug in the printer and turn it on, at that time your system will finish loading the drivers and complete
the setup process..

Windows freezes up before boot is complete

If you have your computer Recovery disk, place the disk in the drive and restart the computer. It sounds like your OS is corrupted and needs to be reloaded.

When the windows xp screen is finished loading, computer restarts

You should try loading into 'safe mode' o see if that works. If that works then the problem is in the OS and probably a load file during startup. either a driver or setting that is conflicting. Either way something is wrong with the configuration. Yo may have a virus which is conflicting with one of the legit programs in memory.

If you're reasonably advanced user you can try and download HIRENS Boot Disc and boot into Linux and run a complete Virus scan from there. It will remove any virus's and you can use CC Cleaner to correct registry problems completely outside the OS.

If you don't know how to do any of that then I suggest taking it to a PC shop as well. If the data is important then they will be able to retrieve it and start again.
