Question about Intel Motherboard

How do I get com1-3-5 back on my computer after a complete re-load of w98se

I recently reloaded w98se-I have to use this os because I have older ham radio H/W that uses drivers written for w98se.
When I brought up the computer after the reload, I had com1 and 2 on the mobo. I then added an SIIG PCI fast serial/parallel card and rebooted. What I ended up with was a com1-2-3 with the added card as com 3. Now my understanding is that com 2 pretty much uses the same resources as com 1. I need 3 "unsharing " com ports. So, I went in to bios and diabled com 2 ,then rebooted. The add-on card was installed as com 2 and com 3 was gone. Some how, I think there was an installation floppy with the add-on card but I cannot find it. I did all this the first time many years ago so I may be wrong, but for years, I had a com1-3-5 setup with the SIIG card installing as com 3 the mobo com ports as com 1 and com 5. I sure would love to get back to that configuration.

ps there are no jumpers on the SIIG card.

No sndvol,exe file

it goes in c:\windows. Either the W98 or W98SE one will do.If you have the W98SE CD then it is there in "". I can't see much point reloading Windows for this issue, unless it turns out that there are other files missing.
If you have no Win98SE CD it is worth searching your HD for "" because sometimes folk save a copy of the Windows CD on there somewhere.

I tried to instal greeting cards 123.Macafee didn't let me do it.Now I've lost everything.I can't even get my e mail. What did i do? How do I restore it to the original settings?

You have restore points automatically set on your computer. You need to find where the last restore point is and restore to that point. Then when you try to reload the greeting cards again do when you are off line and turn your virus protection off and when you are done loading greeting card program turn virus protection back on. I recommend getting rid of Macafee it is junk and you are paying way too much for it. You can go on line to and get free virus protection from AVG and it will not mess up your computer when you are trying to down load new software. The nice thing is it is free.

Looking for freeware

Compaq is not an operating system. However, if what you are looking for is to reset the OS, all you need to do is turn the computer off. When it comes back on and displays the splash screen (that's the screen that says "Compaq" on a black background, by the way), immediately hit F11, this will cause it to go into a program on all HP/Compaq computers that will give you the choice to either restore the computer to a previous date or you can do a complete OS reload. Should you choose to do a complete OS reload, you will then be asked whether or not you want to back up your files. I would do so because as soon as you hit the button to continue, everything on the computer will be erased and all the factory settings will be back to normal.

This is why HP/Compaq and other brands of computers don't come with a reload disc.

When the windows xp screen is finished loading, computer restarts

You should try loading into 'safe mode' o see if that works. If that works then the problem is in the OS and probably a load file during startup. either a driver or setting that is conflicting. Either way something is wrong with the configuration. Yo may have a virus which is conflicting with one of the legit programs in memory.

If you're reasonably advanced user you can try and download HIRENS Boot Disc and boot into Linux and run a complete Virus scan from there. It will remove any virus's and you can use CC Cleaner to correct registry problems completely outside the OS.

If you don't know how to do any of that then I suggest taking it to a PC shop as well. If the data is important then they will be able to retrieve it and start again.

Need to reload windows xp on Emachines PC

Yes all you have to do is.........

Turn off the Computer
Turn back on and Press F11 repeatedly when the message "Press F11 to start recovery" is displayed.
The recovery will load and display a menu of options:

Full System Restore (with Backup): This options will move all Hard Disk contents to the "c:\My Backup" directory and install a new copy of Windows. This option preserves your existing data files, however all applications and settings will need to be reinstalled. This option requires 4GB of free Hard Disk space for the new OS.

Alway suggest backing up your data before you do any recovery

Computer just quit reconizing my Canon Pixma IP 6600 Printer. Have tried new cable, reloading drivers, different USB Ports...Nothing seems to work

First impression is try to do an install on another computer.
uninstall unit from computer, delete completely all drivers and its printer software from computer. if VISTA OS make sure a VISTA driver is loaded for that unit.

if a fairly new unit, return too store, possible short.

W98SE Driver for Kingston 1.0Gb DataTraveller Flash Drive

The people at your local computer shop are wrong but, Windows 98 should at least recognize the USB thumb-drive and ask for drivers.
I would remove all the USB Controllers from within Device Manager and restart; allow Windows upon restart to reload the USB Controllers; then plug in the drive and see if Windows at least recognizes and then install drivers.
It seems only the DTI/XX, KUSBDTE/XX, and DTII/XX support Windows 98.
