Asus Xonar DX Doesn't Work under W7 64-bit

Certain video cards are only compatible with certain processors on motherboards. AMD CPUs work with Nvidia and Intel CPUs work with certain graphics cards also. Are you sure it's even compatible?

ASUS Xonar DX ($89.99) or HT Omega Striker ($89.99) would be great if you are on a mid budget.

Frankly, the Claro (HT Omega) and Essence ST/STX (ASUS) are the best soundcards on the market, bar none (with the Prelude not that far behind). The Striker (HT Omega) and Xonar DX (ASUS) take up the budget space check and compare all these then make a desicion based on every detail you need.

Is there a chance that the windows 7 will recognize the soundcard and load its own drivers for it, they might work better?
I have seen Videocard drivers mess with soundcard drivers and vise versa (with Vista, XP and earlier)
Also if there is an onboard audio chip you'll want to disable it in the bios or at least in the device manager.

If your system is running Windows XP, you can try the tips for fixing sound problems in Windows XP.
If it is Vista, similar steps are possible of course.
In most cases the right sound driver will fix these issues, but make sure there are no resource conflicts in the Device manager.

A lot of drivers will not work with Windows 7, at least for now. I would go to the Asus website and download the XP, Vista and 2000 or 2003 drivers for the sound and network cards you are trying to get to work. Try each one out. You may get one to work with Windows 7, but since Windows 7 is still BETA, I wouldn't hold my breathe.

Did you disable the onboard sound in the BIOS?

If you haven't done this yet (you may have), try it and post your results back here...

Were the correct drivers installed into XP.
It seems to me no video drivers are in XP and you are running on the windows ones

CM9880/8CH Azalia Audio CODEC onboard (found on ASUS boards) - basic microsoft UAA function driver installed by Vista works but misses soundinput. Install latest ASUS/C-Media software (set compatibility mode to XP for the installer) > reboot > set multiple streams enabled > switch input from microphone to wave and back > reboot

Creative Audigy (standard) -- No built-in support, but it works with beta drivers from Creative's site.
