I have the same set, SD satellite going into S-Video. Some channels on S-Video, as well as digital broadcast over the air, have noise at the top, in my case it looks like 'dancing' white line(s) With 'just scan' it is visible but if I do "4:3" or whatever the native aspect ratio is with the "p.size" button on the remote it goes away. Hope this helps. You might skipping the HK and go right into the S-video as an experiment. I have been reading that this set sometimes does not size properly with certain brands/types of equipment.

I have a Samsung HLP5063wx xaa and I am getting a HDMI not supported when I hook up my HD-DVR, any help on how to resolve this, PLEASE!!!

I fixed it, if anyone is having this problem, you will have to tell your Directv box to only accept 720p resolution, I only have one line hooked up to my Hd-DVR right now and I had to tell the Directv box that it was on a Single tuner not Dual, I re-booted the directv box and everything works. I hope this helps anyone w/ an older model DLP, It took me hours on the internet to find the answers I needed.

Try to use your directv box with a different A/V connection to the TV and see what happens?
EX. If you have a basic directv box using coaxial cable connection, try to use RCA(yellow,red/white) cable to a RCA input behind the tv.

Just bought a samsung ps50a557s3f 50" plasma tv and the picture isnt very good.Have only got normal sky at the moment and i was wondering what the best settings are

Hi Smudger

Not sure if you still have this issue, but i have just bought this TV & also use sky (not + or HD)...

I got myself a Monster Cable Home Theatre surge protection unit from comet, basically it helps filter out all the background interference (picture & sound) & helps boost the signal sent to the TV..

I use a gold plated scart lead from the sky box to the TV & the picture is spot on.......i've not noticed any ghosting/pixeling etc & am well impressed...

The unit came with a top end HDMI cable & cost £135 (bit excessive you may think, but to buy the unit & cable seperate would cost £250!!) + the cable is a 'cable for life', so you can get a free updated cable as technology progresses :-)

My sky signal was always at half power (you can view this from the sky menu options) & now its almost full signal

We have the 61" Samsung. WE LOVE IT!!! We have a DirecTV DVR box. On the DirecTV remote there is a "format" button. It cycles through all the different options. (Pillar Box, Stretch, 720p,1080p, etc.) Adjusting the picture setting with the Samsung remote is not the same thing. Try using the cable remote......see if it works the same as mine.

Off Air?

The Scientific Atlanta box was a cable box and recieved CATV signals. The Direct TV box is satellite only. You might check if it has a built in ATSC tuner for off air digital signals. Direct TV in most locations offers the major networks in HD format.

How did you get 720p? I have having trouble viewing anything above 480p. When using my directv HD DVR, the screen goes black when it tries to show anything above 480p. Is it the tv or the DVR?
