Can't get Netgear PS121v2 to work on my laptop

I installed this server successfully on my Desktop PC for my HP DeskJet F2100. However, when trying to set the server up on my Laptop I get a message that says it was not able to download successfully. I'm not sure why. My printer shows up, I click on it, the set up wizard starts downloading the driver and then after a few minutes I get the above message and it also tells me to restart the computer and try again. I've tried it several times and nothing. Please help!!! :o/

I can install the driver software but it does not stay resident, it does not show up on the tool bar, nor does it show up in the installed software list. All of this happened after Vista did an upgrade. It worked fine before that.

I finally figured it out myself. The problem is that when you uninstall the print server software, it does not do it correctly. I used regedit to manually remove the server software and reinstalled, and all is well. Hope this helps.

You need to create a new Port rather than using an existing port for adding a new printer. You will need to know the IP address of the PS121 print server BEFORE you start this (you will need to enter this information manually). New port type that worked for me was: Standard TCP/IP Port.

If you are running WIndows 7 64 bit, you need to run the 64 bit version of the installer. Look in the directory ...\bin\driver\MFP\Utilityx64
Also in, Windows 7 you need to run the install wizard as administrator, since it is installing drivers.Right click on SetupWizard.exe and select "Run As Asministrator".

Installation assistant cannot detect print server

Results of attempting to connect the Netgear Wireless Print Server WGPS606 and the Canon MF6550 multifunction laser printer. I was on the phone for several hours last evening (March 9, until about midnight EDT) with a very competent support agent from Netgear (actually in the Philippines). The Netgear setup Wizard software would not connect the Print Server to my Verizon FiOS wireless G router automatically, so the Netgear support agent walked me through it manually. The Print Server connected that way, for sure. Then we manually attempted to connect the Print Server to my Canon MF6550 and subsequently, my HP 932C Deskjet. Neither printer is on the WGPS606 compatible list, nor is either on the known incompatible list. Now we know - both printers are INCOMPATIBLE with the Netgear WGPS606. I bought both the Netgear Print Server and the Canon MF6550 at Staples on Sat., March 8, 2008, based upon the assurance from Staples staff that it would all work. The question now is whether ANY brand of wireless Print Server will work with the Canon MF6550, or do I have to return this printer and get either a Canon with built in networking (ethernet or wireless) or switch to the Brother equivalent (MFC 8870DW). If I get a (multi-function) printer with built-in Ethernet networking, does the Ethernet capability bypass the USB incompatibility problem, or will the problem remain?

One page wasted before print out

Hi Ontheedge,

I really hate suggesting it is a Netgear issue, and dump it, Edge, but most of the posts I found on that Print Server is not good. I would check for a setting in the Manger software, but not sure where it is. These link suggest it is a Netgear issue.

NetGear PS121 Print Server won't print out from regular user account

Hello
PS121 isn't wireless, it uses an USB cable to the printer.
Just RUN compmgmt.msc
,find expanding "Users and Local Groups" your kids
/Properties on them

and "Member of" / Add / Advanced / Search /
then select in the list down "Power Users" + OK

Have a nice day. P
