I have charter cable for my desktop with a modem. I started working for a company that wants us to use their provided laptops. They sent this router to me shown below. I had them assist me in connecting it. I last used it to send HIPPA protected information via uploading to the corporation on Thursday nite.
Friday I went to use it to get onto our other sites on line and it said it is disconnected or unplugged. And it tries to connect via a phone dial up and not via the cable. Of course, I do not have dial up. Also, my own desktop wouldn't connect either, but I got it fixed by myself. My laptop for work hasn't been able to connect to the internet since. My laptop indicates that I have two connections 4 monitor screens in the RT hand corner. One is connected but it won't take me to the company site, its the one that isn't connected that I have to use. I've called our company computer experts this morning and he checked the IP address, and various other things but couldn't get it connected. I don't think he is that smart tho...and I asked to speak with his supervisor and he hasn't not called me back .... I think it needs to have the dial up disonnected and a IP address given to it....but I can't do it by trouble shooting it....I have my ethernet cord from my computer hooked into the Linksys #2 port. They sent two blue cables and one is hooked into my modem at the ethernet site and the other blue code runs from the Linksys #1 port to the laptop. It worked just fine that way for a couple of weeks and now it doesn't after I uploaded on Thursday. Its got to be something simple. I even restored my computer to before it quit on me and that didn't help. I"ve got 3 power surges filled with plug ins, I am so sick of all these cords going everywhere around my desk! I have cable phone modem too and internet modem and cable TV cords!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Please help if you can thank-you......cuz without me being able to get online with the laptop I can't work.....and I"m scheduled tomorrow to work and if I can't download the info from the corporation office I loose money. Jan...email: janinharbor@hotmail.com

What is the modem brand / name? maybe you need to get the modem placed on bridged mode first before you can connect the linksys wireless router. check the ip address and make sure it's the ip of the router.

I see that people are asking about driverss for the RCA dcm425 cable modem. I just bought a new computer, and I connected it to the my old dcm425 modem through a router and it works just fine. I didn't...

The trick about all this is that the software does not configure the computer, but the modem.
So once it has been configured through a computer then plugged to a router, any computer plugged to the said router will have access to the Internet.

The whole process of installing/configuring will happen if you replace the old modem and/or plug a new computer directly to the modem.

I have another computer i want to install in the up stairs.do i need another dsl router to connect to it????.

If you have a Westell 6100, it's just a modem meant to connect a single computer to the Internet. It has the jack where you plug in the cord to your DSL phone line, and an Ethernet jack so you can plug in your computer. You can't have more than one of these connected to the phone line because of address conflicts that would result.

What you need is a wireless router so your Internet connection can be shared by several computers. Most service providers are installing Westell models that combine the modem and a 4-port wired/wireless router for new customers now. Since you have the modem only, you'll need to supply the router. The wireless function lets you use the upstairs computer without having to run a network cable to connect it. That's much cleaner and simpler. There will be four connectors on the back of the router for wired computers or other things (such as a network printer) you might want to connect. You still have only one connection to your DSL line, but now you can hook up several computers at once.

There are several companies making wireless routers and they all do pretty much the same thing. Netgear, Linksys and D-Link are the most common, and you can buy a wireless router at almost any retailer that sells computers. You can also find them online from companies like TigerDirect or Newegg. Other than staying with one of the major brands (it's easier to find support for those if you need it), there's not much to recommend one kind over another.

It's pretty easy to install a wireless router and set up your wireless network. They all come with a CD containing setup software that will guide you through the process. You'll have that upstairs machine on line in no time.

Ethernet light went off and won't come back on on dsl modem

no matter what the model is, the thing has to work. it is not that ur new modem is smaller so it is not working . Check the suggestable router modems for AT&T . if ur modem is working fine , then install the modem drivers in your Pc.

Cannot get wireless router to work with comcast

I hope your internet is working fine when you are connected directly through modem . As of my views you need to configure your newly purchased router first. Connect your router , see to that all the connection are appropriate . Your modem enthernet cable should be connected to your router and your router to desktop in this is the ideal connection .

now follow these steps .

1. click on LAN . Select TCP/IP config
2 . Click On properties .
3 . check the box " automatically recieve settings . Click on Ok and close it .
4 . Now to go to ur router page open a web browser . in address column type your gate way . I. E. for most of routers it is 192.168.1.1
and press enter
5 . it will prompt you to password , Your USER NAME AND PASSWORD is ADMIN .
6. in basic setup . Select AUTOMATIC DHCP ,
7. change your IP address to 192.168.1.10
8. save the settings and reboot .
9 . restart your system .
10. Your INTERNET should work .

Wireless routers

Just plug the cable modem ethernet into the input to your router and you will be fine. Just remember, if you decide you want to make any changes to your router settings through your browser, make sure you hook up an ethernet line from your laptop to the router before making any changes. The reason for this is if you make a change in security settings on your router while wireless, the router will reboot and if your laptop did have the settings changed in it, you can be locked out.
Not that you can't get back in, but it is a pain to have to do.

D link modem

try to upgrade the latest firmware for the router and that would fix this problem, check if this problem is with both wired and wireless computers, if not with the wired..only wireless has problems, check if you have any other wireless device operating in the same frequency of the router..if s, turn off other devices and check b.cos that me interfere your w/ls connection, if wired is having the same problem, connect modem straight to the pc and observe the connection, so that you can isolate problem.. Your router is not synchronized with the line. You should power cycle your router (i.e)disconnect power cable from the router waith for 30 seconds and then reconnect, check if the dsl cable is connected properly to the router, if yes remove it once and the reconnect it, this should fix the problem. upgrade the latest firmware version for your router .Are there any electrical devices near the router that are only switched on at that time of day and then switched off again in the morning. What i'm thinking is that you are experiencing REI or Repetitive Electronic Interference. This is caused by EMP emmisions form devices nearby. Have you had anything fitted recently that may be hardwired into you master socket, this will bypass your filter and cause interference on the line. The only other thing I can think of is that there maybe some engineering works going on at the exchange or on the line.

Connect your wireless modem router Sign on to AOL. Download the AOL Easy Installer for Thomson 576 Wireless Modem Router. When prompted to save the file to a location select an appropriate place (desktop is a good example). Once the AOL Easy Installer is downloaded, double click the file: ST_V1.exe This will launch the modem router installer and show the "Welcome" screen. Click the Start Installation button to continue. If you wish to cancel, click the Cancel Installation button. Read the next page carefully. The text advises to close any running programs, ensure to close your AOL software also. Click Next to continue. Please Note: Connect a DSL filter to each telephone socket that is in use for telephones, dial-up modems and fax machines, etc. If you require additional DSL filters, order online at AOL Keyword Broadband Extras. Notes: Ensure to use AOL 8.0 or above. The AOL account to be used for the modem router set up must be a General (18+) account. This installer is not supported with a modem router containing beta firmware.
