Hitachi 50v500a redish cloud

I have a redish cloud over my entire screen i would just like to ask you if you know what might be causing it i've quotes from 6 to 12 hundred dollars and im just not ready or willing to pay that please help guru

    I bought the tv in 04' and the light engine went out within a year!!! Bought it from HHgregg with the extended warranty!!! They replaced it!!! About 8 months ago same thing!! Doing it again, Going to call them for a replacement again and try to talk to them about swapping for a better TV!!! Doubt it will fly but this is ridiculous!!!

    we also have the same red blob on our set.We are having it looked at this week.I did not think to contact hitachi because the warranty was up.I will let you know how we make out.

    We had Sears come and look at the same red blob with the blue streak and they said it was the light engine. They quoted $1062 to repair it. $870 was the light engine part. After a friend looked up the issue on the web and saw this blog, he recommended we call Hitachi. I did and the first person I talked to, Susan, said they wouldn't help. I called back 5 minutes later and talked with Liz and she is sending us the new light engine free of charge for Sears to do the installation. So the key is to be persistent and if you don't get the right answer the first time, try again. We bought our Hitachi 50v500 in June of 2005 and started to have issues this past summer. Call Hitachi customer relations at 800-308-7900.

    This had started about two years ago and now the "reddish blob" has taken over the entire TV.
    There is a red hue over the entire screen. Everything looks dull and pale.
    The phone number given above is now a teleconference centre, not Hitachi Customer Service.

You have a defective light engine and you do not have to be under warranty for Hitachi to replace this part. We just went through this and here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell them that you have a defective light engine. They will act like they've never heard of this problem but they have. They will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area to call. Once a tech comes out and confirms that it's the light engine, call Hitachi back and they will send a brand new light engine to the dealer and Hitachi will cover the cost of the part (cost $1500).

Here is the deal, if you're under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part and the install. If you're not under warranty, all you pay is the install. Our install cost $400. Others on this site have paid $200. Do not let anyone tell you that you have to pay for the light engine part...you do not. Hitachi has not recalled this part but they are replacing it for free. Also, deal only with Hitachi customer realations number that I listed. Good Luck

Keep on them. They will supply the part at their cost. You pay labor. Shop around in your area for Hitachi service centers and they will work with you on the price. It should not be over 400 at the most.

Hitachi told me at first they wouldnt help me but gave me the number for a technician. Once the technician told me the issue was a defective light engine and the total fee to fix it and replace part was $959 bucks. I called hitachi back. She said it was out of warranty and that is why she couldnt help me. I simply told her that I understood if it was broken b/c of wear and tear or b/c i dropped it but this issue is b/c the part is defective and there are tons of blogs with people having the same problem. She then began to gather information so she could send the part no charge. I am now only responsible for labor. $350

You have a bad light engine this part is coverd by hitachi but you have to be diagnosed by a licenced tv repair company your onl cost should be labor

I just called Hitachi. As expected, at the beginning they refuse to help me, however, I asked to talk to the supervisor (His name is Ron) and he verified that if a approved repair center calls them and verifies the problem is the light engine. Hitachi will replace the part at not charge. However, I will have to pay for the labor.
FYI........my TV is also a 2004 and it does not have any warranty.

There is a possiblilty of a class action suit against hitachi for this problem, i have contacted the lawyers for more info, will keep all informed as i get more, the treat alone may pursuade hitachi to be more cooperative. check out this link and contact the lawers if interested http://www.reyeslaw.com/

I also called Hitachi Customer Relations on 7/30/2008 after reading the info on this forum regarding the red spot/halo. We purchased our Hitachi 50V500A in 2004 and the red spot/halo slightly began to appear shortly after the 2nd year and has progressively gotton worse. The person I got ahold of was very defensive regarding this issue and said our tv is too old. I submitted an email to the Hitachi Consumer Complaint Department 7/30/2008 and as of todate no reply. I think I will call back tomorrow and ask for a supervisor and try to gain ground that way. It's so obvious Hitachi is aware these TV's had a defective light engine!!!!

Call them back again and if one person denies you ask for their supervisor. because i had to climb the chain of command 3 times and then they said they would send it for free. Now that whole process took about 30 minutes but it was well worth it. I DID THIS JUST TWO WEEKS AGO and like you i bought the tv in 2004. DON'T GIVE UP!

I called the number you posted here. But Hitachi refused to send me the light engine. They said my TV is too old (I bought it in 2004). This is clearly a design/manufacturing defect. Are you aware of any class action lawsuit?

Hitachi wont help at all, they got your money and thats all they care about you anymore.

I have the same problem but my set is 4 yrs old before I complained about so its not covered according to Kevin at Hitachi's CS #800-654-7013 and its my problem. If it was in an enclosed case without good ventalation it would have went out sooner and been covered I'm told by Kevin.

most likely you have a bad buffer, if the redish area runs left to right take a ruler or something and see if its the bottom side or the top and pull that board, when u have the back off it will be on the left side connected to the y-sus, go on ebay there is a few people who sell them

We had a pretty bad storm now when I turn my Hitachi 42HDM12 on the screen is a redish pink color. How can this be repaired or corrected.


Hello, Convergence problems are usually caused by a diode on the convergence board. These little critters have a tendency to short out and cause the convergence to do strange things.
Obviously, this is not a job for the home owner because few of you know electronics. So, call in the technician to make the troubleshooting of the circuit. The diode costs $.98. The technician will cost you about $250. Don't ask me to explain it. That's the way it is today.

There is no solution - eventually the entire picture will turn blue. It's out of warranty and replacement of the light engine is way too expensive. Start shopping for another tv - I did

Hitachi ultravision 50V500A screen dim


The model indicated is a DLP rear projection and uses a "lamp" for brightness.

If it has not been changed for a while it should be on the right side of the set behind a removable plate. Check your owners manual if you have it.

Life span varies but 2,000 hours is normal.

Hitachi 53 uwx10ba color will not stay balanced. mostly drifts into the red. Pulled off the front and adjust the drivers to correct but will go back to a redish shift. Any ideas??


Projection TV sets have several common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

Symptoms:

  • Screen Looks 3D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted
  • No Audio/Video - TV makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2 CRT Fluid has clouded over. Symtoms
  • Dull looking video
  • White looking video
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking video

Whats the differance between hitachi 50v500 and 50v500a?


Not much difference--the a version is a later model with some differences in cabinet etc.

Both along with the 60V500 are prone to bad optical light engines--redish oval in the middle of the screen--there are several class action law suits underway currently about this set.
