  • Make sure that you have connected the cable box properly to the TV.
  • Use the audio and video OUT from the box to the TV IN.
  • Select the correct input on the TV.
  • Connect it using any of the following: A HDMI cable (1 cable for both audio and video), Component Cables (3 RCA's red, green, blue) + RCA audio cables (1 for mono or 2 for stereo), S-Video + RCA audio cables (1 for mono or 2 for stereo), or AV cables - 1 RCA for video (usually marked yellow) + RCA audio cables (1 for mono or 2 for stereo).
  • Consult your TV's owner's manual for detailed instructions or ask me for more information.
Hope this helps. :)

Are you sure it is the TV itself and not the way the signal is received? By that, I mean check your input receiver such as satellite or cable box isn't the fault. Does it happen with a DVD or video player? The best way to do this is to disconnect all the power to the equipment. Don't just turn off or put in standby. Remove all the plugs and leave for 10 minutes then reconnect and see if that rectifies the problem. If it doesn't, then only connect and power up one piece of equipment at a time until you eliminate everything and prove it is the TV.

Try the old electronic trick of switching all OFF and removing the plugs to TV and cable box for five minutes then reconnect.

Disconnect the cable on both ends. Unplug all components. Reconnect the HDMI cables how you want it set up. Then power up the system again and let it start up. Make sure all the video and audio inputs are properly selected and you should be good to go. HDMI is a pain and quite often on mismatch equipment has to be re-trained. If that does not work let me know and I will help you troubleshoot a bit deeper.

Stuck on menu screen

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

Try going into your setup menu. Look for a setting for "Cable/Air". Try switching it to Cable and then doing a channel search. If you are using a cable box try setting channel to 3 on tv. Those are the two easiest things I can think of off the top of my head without seeing it.

Please try disconnecting all the cables from the TV including the power cables then reconnect them back after a few minutes. You may also try connecting the power cord from the TV directly to a functional wall outlet. If the issue persists then service will be required.

My 6 month old tv went out during a movie we were watching and when i turn it back on all i get is a blank black screen. what do i do? It is a 42" Element

Hi Chris!

Please disconnect all the cables from the TV then reconnect them back after two minutes. Make sure that the power cable from the TV is directly connected to a functional wall outlet. Next, turn ON the TV and reset it to the original factory settings. You may also try connecting a different video source such as cable box, DVD player, Blu-Ray player, Playstation, etc to the TV to check whether the issue persists with all the video sources.

If the issue persists with all the video sources then service may be required.

The image expands off the screen of my HD tv

Look in the menu for an image adjustment option. This is used to center or adjust the given image. Try a different type of connectiong from the cable box to your TV. ie; if you are connected by component connection, try AV or HDMI to test. If that doesn't work, look at the cable box settings (call your cable company for instructions) or have the box replaced if defective.

This is common for PC connections but not for cable.

"Not Supported Mode" Message...

Your tv does NOT support any higher than 720p res.
Is your cable box set to this? If not, and it is set to 1080i than it would explain this, and is also a common problem with computer(vga) connections even with monitors. To see the current resolution the box is set to hook up a yellow jack to the to from cable box just to get the picture back long enough to navigate to a setup menu and lower the resolution back to the highest supported which is 720p
