The arm will not return to stationary and the table...

when a play a record and it's done the needle just stays in the center and keeps playing when it should be lifting up and going back to the cradle and shutting of the rotating platter , also if I playing a record and I want to end it early I push the stop button the arm moves over to the cradle but it does not relax or lower it self and the platter keeps spinnig , only after I turn the power button does it shut of
