Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

G'day ! Do you have the following 2 spare parts for HOOVER 720 (approx. 20 years old w/machine): 1) flexible hose from drum to water pump - narrower at top and wider at bottom; and 2) flexible rubber disc on the upper water pump (round disc-like water push/suction oscillating action, under the drum) which recirculates water? If you have them, please let me know how much are they, and how much is postage/courier to Brisbane ? THANKS. Regards Andrew

Hi, My Hoover 600MB top loading washing machine is approx 8 years old. Recently it has occassionally not fully spun out - clothes still wet at end of cycle. Now it also often doesn't agitate - just...

Have a look for coins etc stuck in the drain pump or the tub outlet hoses especially where they fit onto the tub. If a coin or other foreign material blocks the water flow when draining , these machines wont spin properly.

Water leaks (drips ) into tub after cycle/spin is complete

You have a bad pressure switch or the small hose connecting to the pressure switch may be bad

If the washer leaks water when is filling only, check the following: 1.Fill hoses
2.The water mixing valve

3.Filling injector ( If your washer uses one )
4.Filling spout

If the washing machine leaks during the wash cycle, check the following:
1.The pump
2.The tub stem & seal
3.Tub to pump hose
4.The drain hose
5.Tub (rusted holes)
6.The drum support bolts

If the washing machine leaks during the spin cycle, check the following:
1.The drain hose
2.The tub cover seal
3.The pump
4.The pump hoses

5.The stem & seal
6.The drum support bolts

Put my washing on at a 60 degree wash for 1 hour 40 mins. Went back to machine several hours later, there was tiny amount of water on floor and machine had water in it but the wash had not progressed any...

Sounds like a blockage perhaps the filter needs cleaning or pump blades jammed...If its a Hotpoint then filter is middle of sump hose connected to the drum....

Bearings gone

All Indesit washing machines are aimed at the budget end of the market; as such the outer drum assembly is polypropylene instead of steel. This type of construction is common to almost all cheaper brands which are really designed to simply be thrown away when major parts fail.

Bearing replacement is often impossible as the outer drum inevitably cracks when the old bearing is driven out or when the new one is installed. Indesit do not normally even offer the bearing as a spare part, but if you do get the old one out a replacement can usually be supplied by a bearing shop if you take the old one along for comparison. If you then buy a new bearing and then crack the outer drum whilst trying to install it you won't be able to get a refund.

Your only realistic options are as follows:-

1. replace the entire drum assembly;
2. replace the outer drum complete with the bearing;
3. replace the entire machine.

The first option is not usually cost effective, the second option isn't always possible as it's not always available as a spare part (you didn't state which exact model you have).

The third option may be your only practical solution if you cannot put up with the noise or if the faulty bearing is causing other issues. You also need to consider that if your Indesit is used every day, then it will typically last only around three years from new before major parts start to wear out, so you might repair your machine only to find that it soon needs a new pump or has a sensor, switch or circuit board failure. Better quality (but more expensive) brands will typically last in excess of six years.

Avoid any used washing machines unless you get them for free and they just need a cheap fix like a new pump (or even better when they just need that errant sock pulled out of the tube leading to the pump: many perfectly good machines are thrown away with simple fixes like those). A bargain used machine is only a bargain if it lasts at least a year or two, and professionally "refurbished" machines normally only come with a less than reassuring ninety day warranty.

Water leakage particularly when on full load. Machine is approx 9 years old. thanks

Could be main seal which is quite a large job, but advise looking inside could be a split drain hose to the pump, to access the inside, insert a flat blade 4" from each side between the front panel and the lid to release the clips. The lid will now hinge backwards, remove the 2 top screws on the inside of the front panel, this will now lift to remove. check the black hose at the rear of the drum to the pump.

Hoover Electra 540 Dual Spin. Are hoses still available for this model? I require the hose from the filler to the drum and also from the drum to the pump.

Whirlpool washer (LXR9445JQ1) won't drain but still spins

Hi jenn
sounds like you've got coins or other pocket debris jamming the pump.if you turn the machine on its side to view underneath you will see a 2" DIa hose coming from the drum this leads to the pump.Using a pair of mole grips you can remove this hose from the pump and clear whats jamming it. hope this helps

We are renovating our kitchen & last week my husband moved thbe washer. It is taking in water but it then runs straight back out through the outlet hose....please can you help. It is a Hoover washer...

is the hose lower than the tub as this could lead to the water siphoning out due to gravity, the outlet hose standpipe should be at least as high as the top of the drum

Washing Machine Hoover H100M fills too much water in the drum.

this is 1 of 2 solutions  2 this problem the first thing to check is the vacuum system or it is a split in the pressure switch hose
