Will a canon speedlite 199a work on a canon 60d

yes it will work but you may experience problems when using the TTL as the TTL requires the camera to calculate the exposure thus giving the flash a wrong impression. you can set the flash to manual mode and adjust the power of the flash needed

Using canon Speedlite 300TL on Nikon D80 camera

The Canon Speedlite will work, but you won't get the full functionality of a Nikon Speedlight. Most importantly you won't get the through-the-lens metering.

Canon xti and canon 420ex flash giving

Make sure the 420EX is set to E-TTL and set the camera to "P". If is need of more light, increase flash exposure to +1 or 1.5.

Dark pictures using flash

You could try increasing the exposure level (press AV+/- while rotating the selector wheel to the right) but this will increase the time the shutter is open and increase the possibility of picture blur. Only other thing to do when shooting indoors is to change to a high ISO - 1600 for instance. This reduces the time the shutter is open so working together with the first suggestion you may not notice any difference!

If still too dark, you need a faster lens - you can pickup a 50mm f/1.8 lens quite cheap - this is an excellent indoor lens as the low F number means it lets in lots of light. The fixed focal length means you will have to move around to frame the shot, but they are indispensible for indoor work and a lot cheaper than a f2.8 zoom.

Canon eos 300d - image to dark

Try lithium batteries or rechargables in the 2500mah range,to me they seem to work best in a flash.
If you use alkalines, use a well known brand. But with alkalines,as they loose power it takes longer for the flash to recycle.
Also the monitor might need to be calibrated or adjusting brightness and contrast.
Mine sometimes does the same thing,I just use Photoshop to adjust it.

Shooting with External Flash

Without more information, it sounds like the flash may be set to a manual mode. Try setting the flash to an auto mode. The display should indicate something to the effect of "E-TTL" or maybe just "TTL". The reason your images are blurry, would be due to a slow shutter speed being used on the camera. If your flash is not set to trigger automatically, then the camera will use the slowest shutter speed to acheive the proper exposure of the image. My assumption would be that if you were to take two images back-to-back with the speedlight set to your current setting, one with the speedlight the other with the pop-up flash, the latter would not be blurry. Hope this helps.
