Question about Symbol LS2208 Handheld
I have fried 3 (!) brand new barcode scanners in the past 3 months. I am using them with a Compaq Presario C714NR notebook. I take it out of the box, plug it into the USB port, place it in its holder and scan barcodes. For 2 weeks or so it works perfectly, then it suddenly fails. The red light is dim and intermittent and it just dies. What could I possibly be doing wrong???
There is more than one way for that imager to send data to the computer. Are you using USB, serial, or is there a little box that goes between your existing keyboard and the PC that accepts the scanner connector?

You have to use a program which will activate the scanner.
You can use DataWedge, which will send the scanner input to whatever has focus: https://docs.symbol.com/KanisaPlatform/Publishing/968/KB100417_f.html

It can read all standard symbologies apart from PDF symbologies unless it is equipped with an imager scan engine.

I have a P/S 2 port to USB adapter that I got with a microsoft natural keyboard once. So I know they make them. Here are a few you can get.
