Hi. You could try to resync the control(s) in question:
First turn on Wii, open the SD cover in front, press and release the red sync button found there. Then press the red sync button on the controller behind the battery cover, the process is done when the leds on the controller stops blinking. Hope this will work

If it's a new Wii Remote, make sure you take off the clear plastic film on the front of the Wii Remote. A lot of people forget to do this and it makes the remote have a difficult time "seeing" the sensor bar.

No hand is showing upon the screen

Check to make sure the sensor bar is securely plugged in. My sensor bar quit working because the wire got damaged and I just went and bought a wireless one and rechargeable batteries. Mostly the sensor bar is only used for the menu and any games that have target shooting like billiards. You can bowl, play baseball, tennis, and golf without it on Wii Sports. I hardly ever use my sensor bar since discovering that it isn't used as much as I thought. We just turn it on load the game and shut it off and everything works perfectly on most games.

My problem is the cursor (hand) does not come up on the screen, I thought it might be the control bar, so bought new one, but it still doesnt work.

Try re-linking the controller to the system. There is a small button inside the battery compartment, and a small button within the tab that opens up for the SD slot. Press the one on the console first, and then the one on the controller.

My Wii is not working. It will come on but the remote will not sync with the console (the hand does not appear on the scree). We purchased a new remote but it still is not working. We pushed the red...

You will have to update the wii to play newer games. Your controller problem if it does show a led light on the remote then its synced. If its just not showing you a hand on the screen then its probably your sensor bar. If your controller will not sync and all four leds flash then I would push the button on the console and push the button the remote then just try hitting the a or b buttons. I've also had to slap the remote after hitting the sync buttons to get it to sync. The update thing is normal though.

Console does not respond to all remote actions, ie no cursor on screen, only the minus , home , and plus buttons work i have tried several remotes and changed the sensor bar.

I would try to re-sync the controller to the console.
1. Power on Wii
2. remove battery cover from wii remote; press sync button on remote, will cause LED's on remote to blink.
3. Press the sync button on the console (it is located in the memory card holder on the front of the console)
4. The remote is connected once the LED stops blinking. The lit LED indicated what player # the connected controller refers to.

If you are still having trouble then delete the configuration info first and then re-sync the controller to the Wii.
Do this by holding the SYNC button on the console for 15 seconds after turning the unit on (once you see the health and safety screen). After you do this you will need to re-sync the controller individually.

It also warns of bright light sources like sunlight near the sensor bar, highly reflective surfaces (mirros, etc.) behind the sensor bar, sources of infrared radiation (portable heaters or fireplaces) or radio interference from cordless phones, cell phones, etc. as possible causes of interference. See pages 22, 32, 34 of your Wii owner's manual for full information, or call 1-800-255-3700 if you are still having difficulty.

The wii hand is not showing we tried unplugging and plugging back in it will appear very shaky then dissappear. put new batteries in remotes and still nothing

There are a few possible causes for this issue. I'm sure you have tried most of these steps but I'm going to list them any way. So we have a complete picture of the trouble shooting process.

1. Try another controller.
2. Disconnect the sensor bar and reconnect it.
3. Check the sensor bar settings for the wii console. This can be done by clicking on the wii logo at the bottom left of the screen. Then with in the console setting click on sensor bar. There will be 2 options. Above TV and below TV. Verify that the correct setting is chosen.
3. Try your controller on another wii console.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue contact Nintendo directly.
I hope the info listed above has helped in some way.
If possible please rate this solution.

Wii controller. Hand cursor not showing

Take your cell phone and switch on the camera as if you would take a picture, now aim it at the far right or far left of the sensor bar. You should see 4 led light up on either side. If you see them your sensor bar is ok so check your batteries.

This may not solve the problem, but if you are too close or too far away from the sensor bar you may overshoot the direction you are pointing the Wii-mote by accident. Also your sensor bar settings may have gotten messed up somehow, so check if you move the sensor bar to the other position (if you have it above the TV move it below or visa versa) and see if that helps. If you can get the hand to point at the screen long enough, check your sensor bar settings.

Wii controller

It sounds like your sensor bar is faulty(the lone black bar) Make sure it is plugged in and at the appropriate place.Just move it in front of the tv and try again, adjust it if no help buy new one. It would also be good if you had another controller just to rule out the controller being faulty.
