Gps singal lost

Often, when your GPS is in a "covered" area ... e.g. inside a building, in a tunnel, under a bridge, amongst / under tall buildings, etc... when there is no open space (directly) between your GPS and the satellites, your GPS will loose its satellite signals. If you're in such locations, try to find some "open space" and wait a bit for the signals to be picked up again.
Another common reason why the GPS doesn't get signals, or doesn't get the signals quickly, is because the "latest" satellite positions (locations) have not been updated in your GPS. If/when you connect your GPS to your computer (e.g. using HOME ) and download the GPS satellite (QuickFix) location information, your GPS will have the most recent locations of the satellites in your vicinity/region. With this information, your GPS can pick up the signals more quickly ... instead of having to search/scan around to find the signals ... which can take a bit more time. While your GPS is searching for the satellite signals, it shows the "signal lost" or "no GPS signal" message.

No gps signal

The issue normally occurs when device does not have a clear signal view of the sky.

Your device requires a direct line of sight between the receiver and the satellite. When an object lies within the direct path, accuracy suffers due to reflections and weakening of signals. This can be the cause of lost signal in urban environments, within valleys and on mountain slopes. In all three situations, the objects (buildings and the Earth itself) are substantial enough to completely block the GPS signals. When weak signals are received, they may have been reflected off buildings and the surrounding landscape. Reflections generate multi-path signals arriving with a small time delay at the receiver. This results in inaccurately calculated position.

To troubleshoot a signal issue first you reposition the device in the vehicle and allow it a couple minutes to recalibrate its new position. If there is no signal in the new position, step outside the vehicle with the unit. Perform a reset by pressing the reset button. (Found on the side or back of the device depending on your model) When the unit powers up, allow it a couple minutes to recalibrate its position. If the unit receives a single outside the vehicle but not inside, than there is something interfering with the GPS signal. Do you have a large windshield overhang? Do you have a dash camera? A satellite radio? Try turning off those devices to see if your unit will receive a signal.

Please call Rand Tech Support if the unit continues to fail with receiving a signal after trying the above recommendations.

Can not find signal

  1. Get a clear view of the sky and then turn off the unit and then power on again.
  2. Once the unit is on and you see the street display tap on the signal icon on the screen.
  3. You will see a half globe with horizontal signal color orange and wait for at least 5 full green signal and then close that page.
  4. Once your in the street display you will see signal strength on the screen.

Can't get a GPS signal for last 24 hrs

I had a similar problem and did solve it with the soft reset (pressing reset button). I have a One XL and there is a small reset button that you push with a paper clip. On the XL 330 you press and hold the on/off button for 15 seconds and the unit should reset.

My symptoms: Would not find a GPS signal. When I looked at the GPS Satellite status (press on the GPS signal strength bars, again on the GPS/battery status) you can see it locking on up to 8 satellites but would still not show a gps signal lock. Normally it only takes 4 satellites to get a gps lock. My other sympton was that when I attached the GPS unit to the computer and operated it with TomTom Home, it worked fine and locked on to the gps signal quickly (even inside my home). But it would never (at least for 30 minute trips) lock on to a gps signal. After doing a reset it began working normally and locked on to a gps signal after finding 4 or more satellite signals.

No signal

Do you get a signal if you stand outside?

If you do and you can't get a signal inside the house then you may be in a building with a high standard of thermal insulation using aluminium foil in the walls and roof (depending on the country you are in). Modern windows use a thin copper film (kappa glass) to reflect infra-red radiation back into the room but it also blocks radio signals.
