Kenmore refrigerator water dispenser problem

Our kenmore refrigerator is about 5 years old. Within the past year we have noticed that the water dispenser will dispense something with the water that looks like a wet piece of paper. If you let it stick to the side of your glass, it eventually looks slimy. You can also lift it out of the glass and it seems to be some sort of slime. It has nothing to do with the filter. We have changed the filter several times in the past year with no change to the algae/slime. It seems to be on the sides of the tubing that runs through the refrigerator before being dispensed. Any suggestions on how to get rid of whatever it is?

We too have a kenmore refrigerator, and it's only about 2 yrs old. We noticed the slimy substance in our water a few months ago, and thought changing the filter would correct the problem. Unfortunately, it did not, and we now have a technician coming out later this week to take a look at it. We're guessing it's slime, but really have no idea. Just hope there is a simple, inexpensive, solution.

we also have slime in our kenmore refrigerator water dispenser the sears repairman told us to remove the water filter because it was removing the chlorine from our water source causing the algae to grow in the water line. so,what good is this refrigerator if you can't use the water filter? Never heard of this problem in any other brand refrigerator.I will be contacting Sears for a rebate towards the purchase of another brand refrigerator!

I have a similar problem but the "slime" in my case is tiny green particles / floaters that appear to be algae. I'd like to flush the system with bleach but can't figure out how to do it. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Water dispenser won't stop dispensing water!

Hi I dont have the knowledge of your fridge, but I'm just going to throw this idea your way , please forgive me if im wrong :)

Perhaps the problem is due to syphonage, the discharged liquids are creating a vacuum along the line.

Did you reposition the height of any supply hoses ? none of them should be above/higher the outlet source itself.

You could also try installing a inline reverse flow suppressor
(small plastic filter that only allows one-way direction of flow.

SOURCE: Kenmore s/s f/f; ice dispenser working; water dispenser not

If you can't hear the solenoid on the water inlet valve(it's on the back where the water supply hooks up) when you try the water then the water switch on the dispenser is at fault.

If you do hear it Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it doesleave the door open till it thaws.

If it doesn't come out there disconnect it at the water inlet valve and see if it comes out there.

You have a partially plugged drain, causing water to flow too slowly. Try reaming out the drain with a long stiff wire until water flows thru it like a faucet. You may have to unplug the unit for a day to get every part warm enough. Hope this helps!

Kenmore Refrigerator stopped dispensing water

Look up through the ice despencer on the front door of the freezer. Is the flapper door open? If so it needs to be fixed. If its not then try leaving the freezer door open for 3+ hours to defrost the frozen line in the door. If that doesnt work, the water valve must be changed.(located behind fridge, take off back cord board panel at bottom, the valve is blue)... GOODLUCK!
