Sorry for delay in answering, but was very busy lately to work on TV. Your guidance pointed immediately and directly to the fault! No more flyback lines... :)

Hi again,

If your Sony KV29C5A is of the FE-1 chassis, the G2 voltage controller is in the C board. The C board is the squarish board at the very rear of the CRT. Adjustment could be made on RV701. If no amount of adjustment would make the flyback lines disappear, you need to check R722 (680K). In some instances it could also be any of R709 (330K) or R718 (33K) or R724 (470K).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

A friendly reminder, you will be working probably on a live set and very near the high voltage section. The G2 alone carries nearly 1KV, please exercise extreme caution and safety practices/procedures when performing any of the indicated corrective measures.

Hi, I had a problem with my Sony CRT television.

The faint background lines are vertical flyback lines. Start your diagnosis by turning the brightness and contrast controls to minimum and view the screen in a darkened room. If you can now see a raster with horizontal lines visible then it is likely that the tubes A1 screen voltage is excessive. The screen voltage is usually within the range of 400v to 600v. Adjustment for this is often part of the flyback transformer. Check all high value resistors
in the screen and focus circuitry. Some of these reistors may be
built into the flyback transformer. As the picture gets brighter the beam current increases, this will eventually cause the X ray protection circuits to trigger shuting off the set. A fault in the video drive circuits to the cathodes of the tube will cause similar symptoms but usualy results in a predominance of one colour, ie
bright red, blue or green raster with flyback lines.

I have a Sony model KV-32S26 that will not turn on, been sitting for about 2 years. Had a tv repair guy tell me it was the flyback transformer. If that's the case, can I replace it myself? Thanks

1) You must test the a) fuse b) c.breaker inside c) diode, d) rectifier e) transformer f) filter. g) IC. regulator voltage and test it. If the problem persist you must go to the horizontal problem by lack of RASTER, now you test the transistor horizontal power, flyback. If you have some experience with the electronic you can try. If do not, better go to the repair shop Tv. Since you can have a electric shock by H.Voltage discharge.
God bless you

Tv picture is too dark- worked with contrast and

This sounds like low screen voltage(A1)try adjusting the a1 voltage bottom control on flyback transformer if you have a voltmeter, voltage on crt base possible market screen or A1 shoud be beteen 350/500 volts when making adjustment remember to take into account current taken by meter If voaltage will not adjust flyback transformer will have to replaced

Horizonal lines at top of tv screen. what's up..how to fix

If those lines are slightly tilted (diagonal) you may be seeing the retrace of the horizontal sweep which isn't supposed to be visible.
At the loss of some brightness, adjusting the screen voltage on the flyback transformer (large, black block with a fat lead connecting to the forward side of the picture tube) may help but it is likely that there is a (possibly bipolar) electrolytic capacitor is failing. This would be located near the flyback and is marked in some manner as bipolar and will be in the range of 10 - 30 uFd. If you attempt this yourself, it will require a good deal of caution since there are potentially exposed high voltages in this area. Some kind of insulated tool is recommended and the flyback will have two (rarely three) adjustment located on it; one will adjust focus, the other screen voltage.
If you are reluctant to try this yourself, it's OK, this kind of DIY isn't for everyone.

My tv is blurry. how do i get it to clear up? I

CRT tv's have a FOCUS adjustment on the flyback transformer. There may also be a "screen" adjustment on it, but you DO NOT want to turn that one.

You would have to open the tv, and take an INSULATED TOOL and turn the little adjustment labeled FOCUS or F on the flyback transformer, which is the large (usually black) thing that makes the high voltage for the CRT. It can easily be found by tracing the large red wire that has a suction cup at the top of the tube in the back. This wire goes to the top of the flyback. the focus is usually on the side of the flyback.

IMPORTANT!!!!

You must be very careful when doing this. Use a mirror to see the front of the screen while adjusting, don't reach around! Since this is the part of the TV that has LETHAL voltages you must be VERY careful not to touch anything else, since this must be done with te set turned on and warmed up.

I HAVE A SONY KP-53HS10

Hey Shannonbmomt I had the same problem with my KP-53HS10 and I had to replace the High Voltage Transistor IRFI640LFcost me about $20usd with shipping from

http://www.partstore.com/Part/Sony/Sony/872902430/New.aspx?ModelMfgName=Sony&ModelBrandName=Sony&ModelNumber=KP53XBR45

I also found that I had a bad flyback transformer which from what I have read online is also a common problem if the high voltage transistor goes out. So I replaced the flyback as well for another $18 from electronix.com part SONY FLYBACK 1-453-285-11

Soldered both pieces in and tv is good as new

Email or post with any further questions and ill see if i can help.

Mike

Visible scan lines

Hi,

Two possible reasons/solutions why:
1. one or more of your color drive transistors is/are faulty. These are the 3 transistors normally heatsinked in a separate squarish PCB connected at the rear end of the picture tube (CRT). If one or more is shorted, open is leak, then the video display would have faint re-trace lines. other indicators include too bright, unusual color;
2. the screen voltage from the flyback transformer (FBT) is a bit high. This is adjustable and the control is normally at the FBT itself (towards the rear). There is another control present for the focus.

Of course the usual safety precautions applying when working with live sets or electronics with high voltage and possible residual power (in the capacitors).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hello paulaspec,

You have a problem with the three factors, and they are screen voltage, focus voltage, and control (focus 2) voltage. Basically these voltages have to be adjusted since the components in this section have aged some. These controls are usually located in the television on the IHVT (Integrated High Voltage Transformer) or as it is also called the flyback transformer. these controls must be adjusted together, along with the color controls. Here is how the adjustment is done (You will need a schematic diagram, a DC volt meter, and a color bar generator to do these measurments):

1) turn color and tint fully counter clockwise until you have a black and white picture.

2) connect the color bar generator to the TV (ch 3) and turn it on, you should see bars in various shades of gray

3) adjust as best as possible the color and tint controls to obtain the color bars on the screen Red Green Blue.

4) measure the voltages on the focus, screen and control grids of the CRT and match them to the schematic digram measurements.

5) adjust the focus screen and control grids to match the ones on the schematic diagram

6) once this is done then you adjust the color controls once again to obtain the red green and blue bars on the TV screen.

This should help if the CRT (picture tube) electron guns are still good and if the flyback transformer voltage supply is working.

However if you do not have a background in electronics please take the TV to a shop for repairs.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Shuttle83

Tv showing blue screen with flyback lines sound ok

Flyback lines? Is the picture all white with no brightness control with faint horizontal faint lines? If this is what you are saying, the screen voltage could be bad, and if thats the case, the picture tube or the flyback itself could be bad. You could also have a bad connection on the crt socket
