Question about Epson Stylus Photo R320 InkJet Printer

Epson Stylus Photo R320

My epson r320 printer powers on and makes a grinding sound then says "general error" on the console. It is not a waste ink error. As I have replaced the waste ink pads and reset the counter.

Any ideas?

My R320 started doing the same thing...it seems to want to start printing but then it makes the grinding sound and seems to get "stuck" to the left.

My R320 does the same thing. I get a grinding sound when the print head is at the extreme left after power up. I reset ink waste counter and did the 7 sec. button push. Still get "general error". ??? Any ideas. Thanks Ken

Turn off the power and look inside the machine to the right hand side. Just in front to f the print head you will see a white plastic dowel (see photo). Use something technical - like a finger, pen or screwdriver - to push this dowel in. You can then move the print head by hand to the middle of the carriage.

Once moved, turn the printer on and watch it travel back to the home position. If after returning home the dowel pops back out and does not retract itself, you will need to strip the machine out and rebuild the ASF section. Sounds hard but its just a few plastic parts to take apart and reassemble whilst looking to see if anything is broken.

Get a service manual; for the machine HERE if you need to strip it out.

I actually think this could be that the flat cable that runs into the back of the printhead carriage has come loose.

The effect is much like the printer becoming blind as this cable runs into a sensor that reads the plastic strip across the back (probably too much information).

Anyway, you need to locate the flat brownish cable which will run around the back of the printhead carriage and gently push this back into the little socket that sits on a circuit board back there.

This may not work so apologies if it gives false hope but this is one that would match the "Stuck far left" issue.

Changed ink printer error on r320

Power off the printer, check for obstructions. Move the print head to the left side, then again check for obstructions. Make sure the cartridge cover is closed. Try to reinstall your inks, push them down the cartridge holder until they click.

Epson R320. Had a "end of life" message so I held done the Power/Maintainence/Stop buttons for 10 secs and nothing happend. Held them again and unplugged it, plugged it back in and pressed Power and now...

The R320 is not compatible with the keypad press routine if I remember correctly so you really need a utility that can work with it.

I've had a quick check and found that the A10_IPR is capable of handling the reset for that model but for completeness here's the link for all the current info I have on the R320 in terms of resetting and fitting an external waste tank which you'll want to consider to avoid the printer flooding with waste ink.

Hope it's of some use but let me know if you're still borked after trying.

I have Epson stylus photo R320 printer and it keeps on saying parts inside your printer are at the end of their life,?

You need to reset waste ink counter. Don't forget to replace or wash waste ink pad. Or just extend outlet pipe from head cleaning mechanics to outside bottle.Use SSC latest version or R320 adjusment program. Find at indoreset.blogspot.com. Or contact me if you don't find out there. It's free.

General error on my epson stylus photo r320-

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

This could be the Ink Overflow Protection Error. If it is you may need to get a Rescue Kit for your machine form http://www.TheServiceManualShop.com Does the status monitor or LCD indicate that parts inside are past there service life?
