Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I lost the manual for my dishwasher. I have two questions: (1) How does Light Wash differ in its cycle from Normal Wash? It seems it should be (but isn't) shorter. (2) When using the Light Wash cycle, should I put soap only in 1 of the cups for dispensing (leaving the pre-wash cup empty)?

Fisher washer stays on clen for over 3 hours

"Fisher washer stays on clen for over 3 hours" ???
I think you mean the "Dishwasher stays in the clean cycle for over 3 hours", right? First question is "What cycle?" If it's the Pots and Pans cycle, or "Pro-wash cycle" , or "Normal cycle with extra wash heat or sani-rinse options selected, then yes, this is normal! A Normal cycle (without added heat) will take about 2 hours. And a short or quick or 1-hour cycle will take less.

I have a maytag dishwasher and the light wash light stays on even after a wash cycle. Tried to press normal wash and goes back to light wash. What could be wrong?

Buttons could be shorting out and not makeing proper contact from just being old,How old is you unit?? Alway put age with your question,,on anything! Nobody wants to beleive there unit is old,Humane nature I guess, Always keep manual with purchase date in it handy. If it lasted more than 5 years your very lucky.specially if you use it everyday.

The dishwasher runs for 1 1/2 hours on the wash cycle.

Hi,

This may sound strange but that is a normal cycle time for today's dishwashers. They use much less water and the water is 'recycled' within the filtration system in the pump.

By reusing and filtering this water they save on heating energy and water consumption. The motors are not as powerful so they use less power even when running longer. Many machines will alternate the wash between the upper and lower arms, this type uses much less water and energy but again the trade off is long cycle times.

If you were to select a heavy or pots and pan cycle with hi temperature wash and a sani rinse your times can be up to 4 hours in some machines today.

The reason behind these savings are mostly due to the energy standards that the appliance manufactures have to abide by today.

I know this may not have been what you wanted to hear but it is how they work today.

Runs forever! even on Normal wash...help !!

Check to make sure you heating element has not failed. Dishwashers of today heat the water periodically through out the cycle and if the element has failed. The heating delay light is the indicator that tells you that it is trying to heat the water.

Normal wash cycle is as follows..

Rinse1 10 min

Dry(hot or cool) 23.5 min

Total of 85 min

Maytag dishwasher

Hi kimleh.

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: The dishwasher goes through the first wash cycle on a light setting and first two on a normal cycle but will not continue. The motor hums but does nothing else.It drains fine as well after the wash cycle.

Without additional info it sounds like a control problem. Must be a warranty call. If beyond warranty then you have to decide whether it's more cost effective to repare or replace it.
