Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
MFC_5840CN Will not print, not showing error message, reads full of all color ink. I'm using a mac OSX10.4.11 Help!
Is it compatible with your OS? have you tried searching for a comptible software and driver for that OS>?
i would assume that your printer is using a usb connection right.
then the most that you can do is try to jump from one usb slot to another so that your computer will be able to detect that the printer is connected.
with regards to ser71 posts, his steps are good and in essence to be followed.
feel free to post any reactions you have...

Typically, a Brother machine stops printing,
because the connection between the computer and the Brother machine is
lost. There are multiple reasons for a lost connection.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Press Menu, * 2864. That puts in in maintenance mode. If it flashes error 48, the flat ribbon to your head is broken. You'll need to replace the entire head assembly. Press 99 to leave the maintenance mode.

I plugged the printer into my laptop and let windows 7 install the drivers. It couldn't get the correct driver for the printer itself. Let Windows fix the problem. I then unplugged the printer and performed a network install, Windows picked up a driver was already installed and then use this driver. Can now print via a network or locally.
