Congrats on entering the scanner world. Two different points of information you'll need: 1. Local municipal services' radio frequencies 2. Download a "10-code" definition list
If you google search San Joaquin County and "radio frequencies" you get a list of all the local radio frequencies that the local services in your area are broadcasting on. Then you can program them into your scanner... sorry if you already figured this part out.. Secondly, you can download a police call 10-code definition list and you be up and running. Print out your code list and you'll have alot of them memorized real quick. Also you'll get used to the local abbreviations being used in your area... for example in my area, "ECR" means El Camino Real.. a main street near here. Have a blast..
I have this same problem and am very unhappy with this system because of it. I've had Panisonic before and never have had this problem. I'd return the phones but it's been more than 2 weeks.
