Hey,

The built-in video card of a compaq presario c713tu laptop is Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950. The video card has 256 - bit graphics core running at 400 mhz. It has up to 224mb maximum video memory. I think the package of the laptop has only a 512mb ddr2 667 memory, what I advice you is that youd just use around 128 mb only of memory of your video card.

The question is how? Well first you'd need to go into your BIOS where you could change the settings of the video card. you could change its settings into 128mb. How to go into your BIOS? when you restart the computer, it allows a setting wherein you could press "delete or f2", this purpose is for you to enter and manipulate the settings of your bios. Why use 128 mb only of memory of your video card ? simply because if youd use its maximum settings, the tendency of which is that it uses half of your memory which is only 512. The result of which is that the computer will not run that smoothly.

If you have 1GB of memory, you could maximum the settings of your video card.

In terms of upgrading your video card, your board has an extra PCI Express x16 port wherein you could add an additional video card.

If you have only a 512 mb memory, the best option for you is to upgrade the memory. Thats all.. :)

Windows 7 is superior to XP, in my opinion. If you have 7 there isn't any reason to go back to XP, which is no longer supported by Microsoft in a big way.

I think that the graphics card on a laptop is integrated onto the motherboard in ways such that upgrading to a better graphics card is not generally possible.

It's fun to think about these things, though.

To improve performance, increase the RAM from 512Mb to 1Gb or 2Gb.
The graphics card is part of the motherboard and therefore cannot be upgraded, BUT the graphics card used shared RAM (part of the main RAM) and you most likely can increase the video RAM by configuring the video RAM from the BIOS configuration.

Hi i have compaq presario c700 its too slow discr

If you have changed OS, your problem probably is not due to malware or bloat.
Upgraded to 2gb ram, new hard drive. And still you think it is too slow.
I think either you are too fussy, and expect too much OR your laptop has major problems at a chipset level.
Have you tried running some benchmark software to check if it really is running slow???

I would Do a fresh install of windows, SELL it and change to a different model.
Try checking a couple of reviews on sites like Custom PC, for a good fast laptop.

Buying a laptop

I wasn't aware they still put mobile Pentium 4 processors in laptops. If you can, you should get an Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo.

Other than that, the specs look pretty good. You might want to upgrade to 2GB of RAM though if your computer is going to be running Windows Vista.
